Postpartum Depression

Zoloft question

So I have a 10 week old baby girl and have just been diagnosed with ppd... the doctors have given me a prescription for zoloft starting with 25mg for a week and then 50mg after that. I just didnt know if thats the usual? plus I am breastfeeding so I dont know if anyone has an opinion on that too

Re: Zoloft question

  • I started on the exact same dosage as you. 25mg for a week and then 50 after that if it went well. It went well and now I am up to 100mg and am feeling so much better. I breastfeed 'round the clock and it hasn't been a problem at all.

  • I am on my second week of taking Zoloft. I started the same way that you have. Besides a few headaches, feeling sick and really tired. I have no complaints except that I cannot wait to start feeling better. I am also breastfeeding my 7 week old. Things have been fine with him. I was told by my doctor and pedi that Zoloft was the preferred drug and it was OK to use while breastfeeding.
  • That's normal, it can be a bit of a shock to start on a higher dosage, so they generally step up. Even after a bit of time if you still feel a bit depressive they can up the dosage further.

I breast feed as well and there haven't been any problems. My doctor asked me if my children ever had diarrhea from me taking it (can happen) or were out of the ordinary irritable.

    Good luck!

  • Even though I didn't take Zoloft after pregnancy, while I was not pregnant, they started my lower and moved my way up.
