I brougt Brooklyn for her 18month app. (I know like a month late, whole nother story) and her stats were weight 23.5 27%, height 32" 46% and head 19" 87%. because has lost weight since her last time she was seen they want her to be on a more fatty diet. I have 2 questions:
I know there are a few Dec. that the doctor said the same thing what is your normal go to fatty foods.
What are your stats
Re: Dr.is concerned
Hazel has almost identical stats, except her head is smaller(50%). I don't even consider her small. I think she's a pretty average size.
If you are looking to add more good fats you could try to get her to drink more WCM and eat peanut butter. I don't think you need to go to any extremes at this point.
P's stats: 32 inches tall, 20 pounds 6 ounces.
At this point, we're continuing whole milk & just eating a balanced diet. I don't even worry about the weight anymore. It's hard to do though, but P really does eat. She's just small & very active. If your LO isn't eating very well on a regular basis, then I might be more concerned.
Question - when did LO start walking? Was it somewhere between her 12 month & her 18 month appt? That could be part of it.
She really started walking at 13 months so good point and she did start a new daycare also.
DS had very similar stats - I think he even weighed less than your DD, but it was still a gain from his 15 month appt.
Our ped was happy he was back on the curve, though, so she didn't suggest any particular diet changes.
DS is a sucky eater though & would probably starve if we weren't constantly on him to eat something.
With that said, I would still rather feed him fresh fruits & vegetables & things that lean toward healthy, rather than deliberately fatty foods.
As far as "fatty" foods go, we do a lot of avocado, 25 oz of WCM per day, toast w/ PB or cream cheese & pasta with sauce.
Since it's summer & we go to a lot of family BBQs, he'll have some cheeseburger or hotdog. He isn't really a fan of meat in general, though.
Every once & a while I'll offer him ice cream as dessert. Sometimes he says no & sometimes he'll eat about 4 bites.
He used to like chunks of cheddar cheese, but not anymore. He barely likes yogurt anymore, either.
The last time I gave him pizza, he threw it up, lol.
18 month stats from last month: weight 22 lbs (5th%), height almost 32'' (15th%). He's been on this curve since he was 6 months old, so pedi isn't concerned.
We feed him a high fat diet, but no junk food. He eats 1 avocado a day, peanut butter, huge portions of full fat cottage cheese and full fat yogurt. The yogurt is like Haagen Dazs ice cream per serving, but is healthier. He loves cheese (full fat only, no string cheese). Also, I mix butter or olive oil into his veggies and noodles. Thankfully he's a good eater and not picky.
L was 31 inches (10%), 19lb, 4oz (0%) and her head was like 60%. She's been pretty consistant so we're not concerned, especially since she's still gaining height which is apparently more important at this point?
I give her lots of cheese, peanut butter, and use coconut oil as a sauce with her fruits sometimes. I have to be careful or she'd fill up on fruit every day and eat nothing else ( I know, tragic, right?) but because she's so little I try to push more calorie dense, fatty, and high protein foods.
Full fat Greek yogurt is hard to find but PACKED with fat and calories. Still in some pur?ed fruit and it's not bad.
A has always been very small, he is probably in the 2nd or 3rd percentile on the growth chart at 20.5 lbs at his 18 month visit.
I also try to feed a higher-in-fat diet, but try to keep it healthy. Like, I don't feed him french fries just because they are fatty, but I try to make all of our snacks count. So for instance, he will never just get puffs or something that is empty like that.
Instead of just fruit, I try to make sure he has fruit AND yogurt. I put a little butter or oil on his pasta. We put a shot of heavy cream in his nighttime cup (with our pedi's blessing). He does eat cheese and meat a lot, which is good, so when I buy ground turkey for him, I don't buy lean, I buy a higher fat content. He likes gelato with real fruit in it too. We would be feeding him a pediasure as a snack sometimes, but it turns out to have soy in it, which he is allergic to. But it's something you can try! He really liked it when he had it.
My DS was 21 lbs. and 32.5 inches at his 18 month appt., but the pediatrician wasn't too concerned. He's always been on the smaller side and since he started crawling, his weight has been at or below 5th percentile. Pedi is not concerned since he is developing normally overall.
I agree that increased activity from walking and running around could definitely play a role in her dropping weight.
Like several of the pps said, we focus on feeding him healthy options and letting him listen to his own body on what and how much he eats. We do put olive oil on his veggies, and feed healthy fats like avocado and greek yogurt. We're an all-thing-in-moderation kind of family, so he does occasionally get high calorie treats but no more than if he was a normal weight.
DD was 33.5 inches and 20.6 lbs at her last appointment. Our dr isn't concerned, but DD has maintained her own curve since about 9 months. I figure as long as LO is growing consistently height-wise the weight thing isn't as big of a deal.
We feed DD pretty much the same things that we eat. I rarely offer her anything other than WCM to drink. I do tend to add a little extra butter to her meals than I do to mine. And we also do peanut butter. And a fffc I don't feel bad if I occasionally let her splurge on a terribly unhealthy snack, but we only do that a couple times a month.
