Portable beds/Going out of town

I just found out that my grandmother isn't doing the best in the world. So, I decided to leave Sunday and drive up to see her. Avery is a crib sleeper for both naps and bedtime. She won't sleep with me or around me. And she won't let me put her to sleep.

I have a pack n' play but the bottom is rock hard and I don't see her sleeping in that thing for a whole week. I know (CLV or CVL can't remember the way her SN) posted about this a while back. What did you end up using?

Does anyone know if the portable mattress' work in the pack n' plays?

  • Do you have a padded sheet for it, those are apparently good. DD will be sleeping in a PNP for a week soon. I hope we don't have issues :)

  • We have this mattress for our pack n play:

https://www.amazon.com/Dream-On-Me-Playard-Mattress/dp/B004JU0H6O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342586345&sr=8-1&keywords=pack+n+play+mattress (sorry can't make clicky in chrome).

I think it helps make the PnP more comfortable, although it doesn't fold up so it would take up a lot of room in your trunk.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother. I hope your trip goes smoothly (and doesn't mess too much with Avery's sleep after all the teething she JUST went through!!)

  • Sorry to hear about your grandma :(. We bought the babybjorn travel crib.  It has a mattress which seemed more comfortable than our PNP.  It's also MUCH easier to set up and put away and much lighter.  I looked into the pod type travel beds but I knew my Avery wouldn't fall asleep in something like that - she needs a crib like structure.

We just traveled and used our PnP for a week. We used the padded cover and a sheet. The padded cover is pretty padded and makes it more cushy, IMO. Our biggest problem was that DD is too long for the PnP but her naps/bedtime were great all week.

  • I'm sorry about your grandma.  T&P.

So now I feel like a bad mom, lol.  We just got back from out of town, and C slept in the PnP for a week and a half with nothing but his lovey, sleep sheep, and a couple blankets.  He did great.

BRU. I tried to find it online for you to see but I don't see it. I definitely purchased there and have seen them plenty of times since (usually at the end of the aisle where the PnP's are displayed).

  • We stayed in a hotel recently that did not have portable cribs - only PNPs. The PNP we were given had a pretty awful pad. I found an extra set of sheets in the closet and used them to add padding to it and then covered it all up with the PNP sheet cover. It seemed like it'd be a lot more comfortable with the extra padding that the sheet set provided and DD slept pretty well. Just thought I'd throw the idea out there in case you don't want to buy another bed.

  • Thanks ladies. Once again you have help me figure something out. I am headed to BRU to get the padded sheet for my PNP. And if they don't have it, then I will used an extra thick blanket as padding. Big Smile

hey! After all my questions on a PNP mattress, etc...I ended up not finding one. We did already have the padded sheet (fyi - don't put it in the dryer, it gets those little balls of lint all over it) and still was hoping for something else. She ended up sleeping just fine in it this go around, so I think it was just that she still wasn't a great sleeper the other times she was sleeping in it. She slept all night and for naps in it just find the entire time we were gone!

Sorry to hear about your grandmother. Whenever we go out of town (not frequently) we end up doing a crib rental. DS never slept well in a pnp and we didn't even try with DD. The rental cost about $100 for the week and they delivered and included a mattress to which i brought my bedding. We rent from the same service each time we go so i am comfortable that they are safe and clean. Good luck in whatever you choose. Sleep is so delicate with my kids that I can't take the chance in screwing with it!
