Kindergarten Question for NY state

Does anyone know if in NY state a child has to be "accepted" into Kindergarten (public school)?? I know in some other states, the only thing the school requires is that the child is of the proper admission age. We are putting my daughter in Pre-School 3days a week anyway, i was just curious if there are certain critera that she will need to know for her to be entered into the big K, or can she get denied bc she doesnt know enough? Just trying to research and prepare for what i should work with her on from now until next year. Thanks everyone

    We live in Western Ny and the only thing that is required is u have to be 5 years old by December 1st of that year.They do a screening in June just to see what the child knows and if they will need any special services when they start school.

    Just the proper age...at least for public school.  I have never heard of anything different.

    Your "zoned school" has to accept you if your child is 5 by the cut off date
