Hi, I'm new on this board, my son just turned three yesterday (sob!).
He will be starting school a year from now so I am really wanting to work on kindergarten prep stuff with him. Does anyone have any good resources on teaching Phonics, word recognition, writing, etc?
I am also wanting to work on the non-academic stuff, such as getting himself dressed, tidying up after himself, using the potty (which he is still not doing), brushing his own teeth, etc. I think with this stuff I will print of a chart and get it laminated and then just have him follow it every day, but I'm really stuck on the phonics stuff. I am trying to teach him as we see signs when we are out, or as we are reading together, but it is going very slowly.
Re: Intro, and a question
Welcome and Congrats! When DS was younger (and I was SAH), I just searched the web for a Pre-Kindergarten curriculum and started teaching him that. When he was 3 yrs old he started preschool and I then reviewed and reinforced his "homework".
www.abcmouse.com appears to be a good Pre-K resource. It appears as though a fee is required but I'm sure there are other free sites out there.
The non-academic stuff is good to. From my experience, they learn best if you do it as a daily routine/be consistent. For example, DS knows in the morning he uses the bathroom, washes his hands, brushes his teeth, washes his face, eats breakfast, cleans his table area, takes his vitamin, gets dressed, etc.
Jr. Kindergarten. I guess that's the same as pre-k? It's full days.
