Hi All! This is my first post, and I am due December 14th ![]()
I was wondering if you all have done much "preparing" for baby? I haven't, and keep thinking I'm going to be behind in a few months. Should I be starting the nursery, gift registry, etc? Just not physically having anything started is making me feel like I am slacking ![]()
Thanks!
Re: Doing much yet to prepare for baby?
Welcome to the board.
I haven't done anything other than clean up the spare bedroom that will be the nursery. I don't think there is much "to do" at this point? We will start our registry after we find out the sex, which is August 1st and we won't buy anything until after the shower. So really I have nothing to do anyway.
We are going to get the carpets cleaned...but that doesn't need to happen until right before we start furnishing the room.
Id say your fine with timing. I read a lot about natural child birth so that I can start to prepare that way. My badley classes don't start till September.
Really just reading and exercising are all I feel I personally need to do right now.
Is there something you feel like you need to be getting done right now? Just do it

Thank you everyone, that was very helpful and I feel better already!
I should take the time to do more reading right now, I think I'm just worried that later on holidays might overshadow getting things done for baby. I find out on the 25th if it's a boy or girl, so I guess I will get going on a few things after that. Oh, and thank you for reminding me, I've been meaning to sign up for my birth class too!
We've started collecting random things (everything but the crib we got last night has been gifted from friends) but they just go straight into storage for now. I was supposed to start cleaning out the nursery (currently our cats' room) last weekend and get gong on the re-painting but... yea, I was tired & feeling extra rolly-polly. Maybe this weekend?
I'm with you though, I feel like I should be "preparing" somehow but there is still so much time and I still don't really have an idea on what I'll even need!
We really did NOTHING until I hit over 24 weeks with #1. I refused to register or look for nursery furniture until then (because I am too paranoid and superstitious that something would go wrong). I don't even think we had started cleaning out the baby's room (although I don't really remember when we started that). And we were totally fine. I actually had just hung the curtain in his room and put the bedding on the crib the day I went into labor...just in time!
And with DD, we needed to move since our condo was too small for 2 kids. We didn't even put it on the market until I was about 25ish weeks. We actually moved a week before DD was born.
So really, don't feel badly about doing nothing yet! You can't be as bad as I was
I've bought cloth diapers... and the grandmas have bought A TON of clothing for her already.
Other than that... nothing.
The only thing I have done in preparing for the babies is buy diapers, I have 4 cases so far and 2 cases of 900 wipes from Costco. I will keep on buying diapers as that was a constant set back during maternity leave. When we get closer to the date I will start buying formula. Neither diapers or formula will expiry before I need them, and both are returnable to stores if they are not what I end up using.
As for the babies room........I have done nothing. We are planning on re-using our sons crib and I have bought another crib as well (used for $100 mattress included). We need to empty out the spare room but I know my niece will be coming and sleeping over at least one more time before these babies show up, so I don't want her to feel pushed out of our house as it is sort of like her room here.
I think come September we will have to move the furniture around. As for painting the colour of the room is a med grey colour, so when we have the babies and find out their gender we can buy accent colours in blankets and curtains etc.
I wouldn't worry too much about being behind, as long as you have a hospital bag packed a few weeks before your due and the baby has a car seat and something to sleep in your good to go LOL.
Good Luck
Robin
Nope, not doing anything.
I don't really think there's going to be THAT much to do. We're not having a nursery, though, so that helps.
I'm sure I'll come up with some to-dos as December gets closer.
Really.. you have lots of time to get things ready. If you are feeling a strong nesting urge, use this time to organize other aspects of your home or small home projects. You won't have much time to do suff like that once your LO is here.
And speaking of Christmas, I personally feel like I need to get things done a bit sooner, just because I don't want certain Christmas traditions to fall to the way side because we are busy getting ready for the baby or vice versa. My "plan" is to have all Christmas shopping done by the end of October. We shall see how that goes though!
Still, all we've really done is read a couple books, emptied out the room that will be the nursery, ordered some basic furniture (cribs, dresser) and picked up a few cheap finds at garage sales. We also have decided what we are going to do in the nursery (colors, etc) but haven't done anything about it yet. And took one multiples class. And started a list of things we'll need.
Okay, when I write that out it sounds like kind of a lot... but like I said - we feel the need to stay ahead of the game - I wouldn't be too concerned from your side of things, though!
i really want to enjoy the pregnancy, and last childless summer (!!!), so we're not rushing into baby stuff just yet. we haven't done anything yet other than figure out which room will be the baby's room and started to talk about clearing it out (it's currently DH's office). i've also talked to a few people who are willing to loan/give us baby items when we need them.
we're pretty supestitious about buying baby stuff too soon before baby arrives, so the plan is to wait until fall to really start accumulating the basics.
