Terrible Mom :(

DH is a pastor and one of his duties is visiting.  Well, the ladies in the church love LO so she and I went visiting with DH this afternoon.  I was having a conversation with another lady when I looked over and realized that the woman who was holding DD was grabbing her arm and trying to force her to push the button on a singing stuffed animal.    I tried to tell her that DD would do it on her own, but she didn't listen.  Finally I took DD away, but not soon enough.  I just went to bathe her and noticed red marks all over her arm :(.  I feel like such a terrible mom for not protecting her well enough.  The lady is super sweet and I'm sure didn't mean any harm, but now I can't let her hold DD anymore.  Gah... I feel awful for my poor baby!

    Was she an older woman?  That is tough.  You didn't do anything wrong.  Is she upset when you touch her arm?

    Those old ladies can have quite a grip ;)  Don't feel bad...I'm sure your baby will have a speedy recovery :)

    Thanks ladies. I know she'll be fine and I know I'm not really a terrible mom, I just hate that she got hurt. And I hate that I can't let this sweet old lady hold her again (this lady made three whole boxes of homemade clothes for DD for my baby shower- she really likes DD).

    Aw, that would bother me too. I'm sure she'll be fine! And maybe once she's bigger you can let the lady interact with her more.

    Im sorry you had this expericance, however it is just the beginning of the skills you will learn to protect your little one. Soon enough you will have play dates and other mothers trying to impose their mothering styles.

    As far as the little old lady, I would address it with her straight up. Show her the little marks and maybe you two can work on allowing her to hold lo again..ONE DAY.
