We have decided we are FINALLY getting DD a play kitchen for her birthday. We are stuck on the kitchens. I want a nice, cool looking, wood one (which I found a totally awesome retro kitchen that fits this). DH wants a plastic kitchen. We don't want to spend a crap load of money. We also wanted recommendations on good play food (once again I like wood & felt food, DH likes plastic) and accessories. Since those will be on her Birthday List to the family. Thank you!
Re: Talk to me about Play Kitchens
We have this and she LOVES it. Plus, it looks great in her room and it is very sturdy.

We got Melissa and Doug play food, which are wooden. My DD and DS love to "cut" this fruit. https://www.amazon.com/Melissa-Doug-Deluxe-Wooden-Cutting/dp/B000NV9G88
Don't forget your dishes and silverware!!
We have this one (in just pink and white) because it looks classier than plastic and my mom bought it.

This is the exact kitchen I would like to get! Only in the aqua/blue color. Can you tell me more about it please!?!
It is so pretty and both my 4yr. old and 2 yr. old love to play with it. It only took my DH about 3 hours to assemble. The paint is covered with a clear coating that makes it very easy to keep clean. The sink also pops out to clean. They tend to put stuff in here. The oven door does not open up and down but instead side to side so they can't stand on it. It has A LOT of storage space. We bought baskets to put in the cabinets to store all of the food, dishes, bottles, and pots and pans. So much fun!
My friend got that one - the kidcraft in white - and she LOVES it. Her kiddo is 3 and loves it too.
It was out of stock of everything except the aqua and the bubble gum pink (no thank you) so we got this one for our LO instead:

It is very small, but LO really likes it (she is 2) and it fits in our kitchen, so she can cook while we cook. It is very sturdy and well made with nice touches like the dials click and that sort of thing.
Another friend has a plastic one and it's crappy, IMO, but I'm not sure what brand it is.
We went with this play kitchen by Step2 because of all the positive reviews:

For accessories the Melissa & Doug wooden sets and felt sets are great.
My parents got DD this one for her birthday: https://www.amazon.com/Educo-My-Creative-Cookery-Club/dp/B000A6L6WK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1342553283&sr=8-2&keywords=play+kitchen+educo
It's pretty small, but definitely functional. It comes with some wooden food and cookery. There are little wooden salt and pepper shakers that are the cutest things.
For play food, I agree that Melissa and Doug has the most variety and best quality for the price.

We looked at the kidkraft retro kitchens but ended up getting the kidkraft uptown espresso kitchen. The big selling point was that it was taller so we felt like it might get used longer. It's also awesome looking. DD loves it. She's only had it since Christmas, but plays with it every day and it has held up well. Every once in a while it pops up on Costco online (where we got it) for $140).
All of our food is Melissa and Doug. Her favorites are the cutting foods. Bloomingdales runs great sales online periodically and I've used coupons on them at michaels too.
My DD loves this one!
They made one from scratch over at Young House Love blog. https://www.younghouselove.com/2012/01/claras-christmas-kitchen/
I got Emerson the PBK retro kitchen when she turned two. Really, it was more for me than her. I loved it but, it does cost a lot.
If my mom wouldn't have helped purchase that, I would have gone with the kidcraft wooden kitchen. I love the red one.
The Ikea food is cool and so is the PBK wooden food. I was able to get a great set of felt food on Etsy, too.
I like this one...
