Tummy time: how much?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I can't find it.  How much / how often are you doing tummy time?

  • 3-4 hours a day.

  • Not nearly as much as I should due to the high risk of two dogs and a rambunctious toddler trampling her...but I need to do more. Though her head control is great when I'm holding her, she won't lift it when on her tummy.

..is this a serious answer?? I thought at least 30 minutes a day.

  • I'm lucky if she gets 15 minutes a day total, she hates it.
  • 3-4 hours!?!

I'm not really doing it. She haaates it. I hold her on my chest and let her practice lifting her head. But.. she doesn't have great control yet and couldn't really push herself up on her arms when I did try tummy time the other day, so don't do what I do.

  • I put her on her tummy whenever she will tolerate it because she rolls from back to belly and then gets stuck and screams. I want her to learn the other way. But she hates it so maybe 10 minutes a few times a day?

  • 3-4 hours has got to be a joke!

I don't do it as often as I used too. But he doesn't really need it as far as head control, his head is great. He is happier in his exersaucer now and hates tummy time anyway. But I do need to do it more because the kid isn't even close to rolling over yet.

Unfortunately.  Im dealing with torticollis, so that is one thing the doc is having us do to help her situation.  It's very exhausting.

Get out of my head! I could've written this exact post.  Ross looks like a break dancer, rolling up on one side and then going in circles.  Nowhere close to rolling over.  If I put him on his stomach for 3 minutes I feel like I'm torturing him.

  • Not a joke.  When I took her to a specialist to look at her head (pedi was worried about flat head and torticollis), they told us we needed to do 2-4 hours per day to help stretch it out.  Now, they do count laying on my chest to sleep, so she does at least one nap on me a day.  I carry her a lot, lay her on my forearms and walk around.  Im not talking 3-4 hours of laying on the floor on a mat (that lasts about 5 minutes).  Basically, she has to be off her back that much.

  • Oh. Well then your answer is 5 minutes!
  • No, there are many forms of tummy time that do not include just laying on the floor. I talked with specialists who explained how to get the proper time.

  • I feel like Max had pretty good head control, but we hardly ever do tummy time. He hates it. He screams his head off. When I put him on his tummy it lasts maybe a minute-2 minutes tops until I am afraid hes going to quit breathing from screaming! Has everyone started using exersaucers yet? I have one but we havent gotten it out. He still makes me nervous in the bumbo for long periods of time so he may not be ready.

  • If sleeping on my chest and baby wearing counts, I would say she does 4-6 hours a day easy.

  • I'd say about 10 minutes for each period she is awake throughout the day. So whatever that adds up to. We also use the bumbo seat a lot which is what my pedi recommended because she has such a large head and has trouble lifting it during tummy time. So the bumbo helps build neck control.

I agree. Tummy time to me = alone on tummy.

I  try to do 10-20 minutes a day of her on the floor on her tummy. She's not a fan, but we're working on it. I don't push it too much since almost her whole day will be tummy time when she starts DC in 2 weeks. Although, I would like her to do a tummy to back roll for ME first, and not at daycare

  • Actual tummy time: maybe 5 to 30 minutes.

time that she isn't flat on her back (Someone holding her, wearing her, etc.) several hours. Since she isn't super into lying down when not sleeping, and she isn't into sleeping for much time during the day anymore... Probably 8 hours, 10 hours..? But yeah I don't consider that "tummy time"...
