Nobody's freaked out by the melamine in formula?

I am surprised nobdoy has commented on it at all on this board.

?

Enfamil's products have the least amount of the chemical; Nestle has the most. ?Oh! ?And Similac did a private study and won't release its numbers.?

    There was a huge post on it by MMML, its probably 2-3 pages back.   My DD was FF and I am not freaked about it.  DS was BF, so not freaked about it there either

    I guess it does freak me out a bit, but I fed my first the same formula that I'm feeding my second and he's just fine.

    MMML started a post last night. I'm freaked out by it, and I don't have a baby on formula right now. It's so sick to me that formula companies and the FDA would allow it.

    Was melamine in formula a couple of years ago? FDA just changed their stance on this recently.

    There was a post about it yesterday.

    I'm not sure what to think at this point - we're 1.5 years away from FF, and I find it hideous and scary.  But I guess I can only hope that it is eradicated before I have another kid, since I was unable to BF Jackson (had no milk at all - not sure how it would go with #2 or if I would be willing to try).

    The only thing I hold onto is that Jackson was on hypoallergenic formula and I try to tell myself that maybe that formula was safer (ha!).   And that he's had no health issues.

    it was only trace amounts- that won't do any damage... that is why most people are not freaking out. (nor is the media too much).

    though, there were some posts about it already.

    Trace amounts is too much! ?Or has been until just today when the FDA revised its stance. ?It was the lead story on my news for 3 days this weekend, BTW. ?There's no proof-- no long term medical studies-- that exposure to the chemical does no damage.

    hopefully the formula companies will get their act together and make sure it doesnt' happen again. ?For those women who don't have a choice, it's an awful thing to have to deal with. ?

    Sure it's in trace amounts, but it's not acceptable at all, IMO. ?I had to give E formula quite a bit as a newborn and while I don't think it's going to end up killing him, I find it disgusting that I put that into my baby.

     ditto. I get sick of being told that "trace amounts" of crap are okay. And this is different from other things that we're told that about. It's practically a poison. How is that okay in any amount, especially in food made for a baby? This isn't a slam on anyone who FF at all. It's a slam on the formula companies who are willing to risk the health of children to save a bit of money. That's what it comes down to in the end--they'd have to bring production here and it would cost more money. Heaven forbid we take a stance and ruin our trade relationship with China. (okay, I don't know that's the reasoning, but it's certainly what it seems like).

    I agree w/ FFM and GHM. ?It;s not about BFing or FFing at all-- it's about disgusting greed on the part of these 3 companies who produce 90% of ALL formulas. ?YUCK.

    Anyone feel like they just can't win? I fed DS Enfamil formula (well, at least it had the least amount of melamine!) in Dr. Brown's bottles, so I gave him melamine and BPA. Great. At the time I had no idea I was doing anything wrong, but now I feel like a shitty mother.

    Only MMML could turn this into a bf'ing/ff'ing debate, seriously! LOL ?It's about advocating for the health of babies, period. ?

    Companies who are supposed to be committed to providing a healthy alternative to breast milk should NOT be putting melamine or anything else non-nutritive and decidedly unhealthy into their products. ?

    there's no fault here on the part of ff'ing mothers and no one (w/ the exception of MMML, clearly) thinks they're bad mothers for ff'ing. ?The fault lies with the formula companies. ??

    I'm not saying it's my fault, but I put all this crap into my son's body. I didn't mean to, I didn't know I was doing it, but it happened. It sucks.

    Yeah, I am.  It really bothers me that the FDA has been allowed to fall into disarray by the current administration.  It is to the point that I wonder about a lot of things.

    I breastfed DD and plan to breastfeed my next kid BUT I want formula to be safe in the event I need/want to use it and for everyone else!  No matter the reason you feed your kid formula it should be safe, healthy, and very, very carefully regulated.

    I'm past worrying about everything like this.  I no longer formula feed....so what can I do about it right now?? nothing.

    It sucks.  Formula is EXPENSIVE, and if they did this to try and "make a buck", that is REALLY annoying.  But, what can I do right now about it?  nothing.

    Ugh!  This is what happens when a Republican administration bent on deregulation and weakening federal agencies has been in power for 8 years.  Bush has been, and is currently, allowing industry to poison us, even our children.  Lifting regulations on safe drinking water, trying to up the federally recognized levels of "safe" lead exposure in children, etc, etc.  We need the FDA to regulate industry so we don't end up like China, or like life used to be here before there were laws on fair labeling etc.

    Goldie: The FDA itself said no more than a few months ago that there were no safe amounts of melamine in baby formula.  A little alarming that they've now changed their tune to due speculation, not hard science.
