What was the most unexpected part of pregnancy/birth for you? This is my first baby and I was not expecting stretch marks that crack and bleed. I have been pretty prepared for everything else so far though.
Sorry about your stretch marks, that sounds really painful!
I wasn't expecting to have such a hard time working out. I've really had to cut back, I have no idea how some people continue to run or keep their normal routine the entire time. Also didn't realize it would be so hard to put my shoes on or move around in general.
I'd have to say the changes to my boobs. I expected (and was looking forward to) growth, but I wasn't prepared for what has happened to my nipples. I swear I wouldn't recognize my own pair in a line up these days.
BFP#1 10 wk missed mc
BFP#2 DS born at 40+2 on 8/14/12 BFP#3 DD Born at 39+3 on 5/13/14
I was shocked by how great I felt after giving birth. I expected to be laid up in bed and feeling pretty rough, but I was back in action pretty much immediately once they let me get out of bed to pee. The nurses and DH had to consistently remind me to take it easy. Hopefully this one will be smooth sailing too!
I luckily haven't experienced anything too shocking in terms of my body.
What I've been most surprised by is the reactions of other people to pregnant women. I have never before felt like I was such an object of curiosity to strangers.
BFP #1 9/2010 (lost our baby at 21 weeks)
BFP #2 8/2011 (ectopic pregnancy)
BFP #3 10/2011 (chemical pregnancy)
BFP #4 12/2011 (Abigail born 8/15/12)
BFP #5 5/2013 (Griffin born 1/23/14 with heart defects, now repaired!)

I'm really hoping for this experience! A few women have told me that after natural, uncomplicated births, they felt like they could run a marathon

I had this too! I couldn't figure out why people were staring, then I realized I look like I am smuggling a basketball. Most people are pretty nice and will just come and talk to me but so many just stare.
mine would be afterwards when the nurse "JUMPS" on your belly after to get everything out. Plus, no one told me to bring my own pads and the hospital had belted pads! I was 18 YO wearing a belting pad- which I never had used.
But the jumping/pushing is so painful - seriously worse than giving birth. FTM- expect it
I was expecting morning sickness, but I was not expecting the torrent of vomit that lasted until mid-April. I lie, I didn't vomit as much towards the end, but I was nauseous and had a pump until mid-April. And, I was not expecting the nausea to return.
I also did not expect my thighs to get huge. I have NEVER gained fat in my legs and now they are massive

Fingers are crossed that I will feel as good as you! I am mentally preparing to struggle mentally and physically and hoping it won't be as bad as I think.
Pregnancy surprise: The loss of mobility (first time and this time). Like not being able to bend over to pick something up. How slow I am. How fast I run out of breath (now).
Birth surprise: The gushes of blood or lochea whatever its called when you stand or sit. It makes you feel so gross.

The dr reaching his fingers inside and stretching me out was pretty inexpected. And the ring of fire I only learned about from one born every minute a few weeks before delivery.

What do you mean "ring of fire"? I have never heard of this before.

Yeah, I'm super curious about this "ring of fire".

This! I'm stoked about the size, but my nipples look so strange.
I also didn't think I was going to pee myself so much.
I had a c section and I did not expect the night sweats I had. I had to change two to three times through the night because I was sweating so bad.
Oh, the night sweats - yeah, I did not expect that. So gross. I'm not looking forward to those again.
I also didn't expect the difficulty & pain I would have with breastfeeding - it was pretty awful for months & months. Even the lactation consultants would wince when they saw my mangled nipples. Again, hoping it goes better this time.
I didn't know what to expect with losing weight / getting back in shape afterwards, but I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly & easily it came off without me doing anything (except producing truckloads of milk).
I luckily haven't experienced anything too shocking in terms of my body.

This. I hate that somehow anyone and everyone feels like I'm part of the public domain. I feel like a sideshow.

I have to agree with this one. But I think you have to add the caveat that I *think* it is only this way for people who had tears or episiotomies.
