I get cluster headaches, which are similar to migraines in the severity of the pain and the types of focal neurological symptoms that go along with them (ie: seeing auras, sensitivity to light), but they last for much longer. In both of my pregnancies, my cluster headache episodes stopped (or at least, slowed down considerably) which is a godsend. So far this pregnancy, the headaches I've gotten have all been run-of-the-mill headaches that go away easily with tylenol.
Many women do find that their migraines increase during pregnancy, though, so it is different for everyone. There aren't a whole lot of medicines you can take that are totally safe during pregnancy, but it's something to talk to your OB/neuro about. My go-to is just to drink a ton of water, take some tylenol, sip something caffeinated, and then go lay down in a dark room with a cool washcloth over my eyes and try to sleep. If nothing else, it usually takes the edge off.
I've had headaches for the last two weeks and they have been terrible! I had one the other day that was very close to a migraine or maybe a cluster headache like PP said. Tylenol has done nothing to help my headaches and normally the only thing that helps is time. I've found that drinking lots and I mean float away amounts of water helps sometimes.
I've had migraines since I was about 19. The only timeI don't get migraines is when I'm pregnant. Told DH I was just going to stay pregnant and he about had a heart attack. Migraine symptoms can vary by person, but most people do get advance warning. I know that if I catch mine early enough, a couple extra strength tylenol and a cold pack help keep them short and not too intense.
I was really hoping I wouldn't get them during pregnancy but lo and behold, i get the SOB's all the time. (Before they were mostly a monthly occurrence. )
Because I cannot take my sweet, sweet potion of Aleve, a double espresso, and a gatorade (just the aleve part is verboten) I have had to get creative
New aids: tabasco sauce in great quantity, plain ol' tylenol + espresso...
It's not as good of a cure as the aleve bomb, but I can sometimes make it work. Also, hydration is super important. I ended up in the ER after sun poisoning/dehydration gave me the mother of all headaches...had to resort to a little morphine. Still feel bad about that.
(disclaimer: my migraines are super weird, loud noises and bright lights actually make me feel better. Never auras or visual disturbances. very odd set of circumstances.)
Ugh, yes! I've suffered from bad headaches almost everyday of my life since I've was 7, but it's manageable. They seem to mutate and turn into migraines when I'm pregnant, it's happened with all 4 of them. I hate it, tylenol doesn't cut it but since there's not much else you can do, I take that with an espresso chaser. It doesn't take away the light/sound sensitivity, but it does suppress the vomiting fit that usually accompanies one of my migraines.
I get them in pregnancy more often than not in pregnancy. I just sit in a dark room with my eyes shut if I can. If it starts while I'm at work I will leave a little earlier (I have a pretty flexible schedule at my job).
