XP: bladder aches when I pee

Sorry for the cross post... Just a little concerned and not sure if I should call the doc. I'm a "if you're not sure, call anyway" kinda person, but figured I'd check with you ladies! My anxiety has been on overload for the past few days, so I don't know if I'm over reacting...

For the last couple of days, my bladder aches when I pee and even more after I void. It doesn't last long, but it sure is uncomfortable.

Anyone else experience this? I wonder if it's a UTI, but also wonder if it's just normal during pregnancy? Doc said baby is 'hanging out low' at my last apt.

Re: XP: bladder aches when I pee

  • Mine does this too at times. I think it's when the baby is pressing on my bladder more - because the days it feels achy are the days I pee a lot more. To me, it doesn't feel like a UTI. When even I've had a UTI i KNOW it's a UTI!

  • I have that too, usually it's because I don't go pee RIGHT when I need to, I hold it for a little while and so after I pee I have bladder cramps. It doesn't feel anything like a UTI to me either.

  • Its a UTI, ive had 2 since being pregnant. Sounds exactly like what was happening with me.
  • I am only a day or two behind you and I experience the very same thing. If I don't go the second I feel the urge, it becomes very painful to empty my bladder and is especially painful in the morning when I get up since I have been holding it a while. If you aren't feeling it in your hoo hah (burning, stinging, unable to release) then it isn't a UTI but worth a call anyway.

Whether or not your baby is low, there really isn't all that much room in there and the it has to go somewhere Smile

Also, I used to get UTI's like once every 2 months and this felt nothing like one, so i told my doc that but they told me it will feel different because everything is moving around in there and they gave me some meds and it stopped hurting once i finished the meds. So, im guessing they were right about it being a UTI even though it felt nothing like it normally feels.

  • I called, and mentioned that I'm having a lot of discharge and some 'pressure'. they sounded worried and are "fitting me into the tight schedule for a workup at 2:45". Great. That did WONDERS for my anxiety...

I am grateful that they are concerned and not messing around though :/

  • I feel the same thing. Like others who commented I also may hold it in to long. Yet I don't think that it is a UTI bc I don't have any burning ( not that, that is always a symptom) while I go. Its just a bunch of pressure in my lower abdomen after I go. Your not alone my next Doc. apt is next week so I thought that I would talk to her about it then. But if you find anything out let me know.

  • I posted about this last week elsewhere. You are not alone. For me, it feels like I need to pee badly, but I have a hard time getting the flow started. Then afterwards my uterus (or something down there) feels achy. Some of the posters suggested I had a UTI as well, but it didn't feel like the UTIs I'd ever had before pregnancy.

I did talk to my doctor at my check-up this week and she said it was just me getting used to the feeling of my uterus sitting on top of my bladder. She said the feeling will get better for a while as the baby grows and the proportional bulk is no longer being fully supported in the pelvic cavity. (But she warned it may return once the baby gets much bigger in 3rd tri). I've discovered that if I lean back and sort of hold my belly up, the flow is much better.

  • I had that with DS. I even went into the ER once because it wouldn't stop. I had a million tests done and nothing was wrong. They just said to not hold my urine, that baby was putting pressure down there, and not to worry.
