Bra Fittings ?

After two pregnancies and nursing both of my babies I am finally ready to go back to the world of normal bras and stop wearing this white nursing bra that I have had on for the past 2 1/2 years.  I went to JC Penney last week to get fitted and thought that I would have some assistance in trying to find something that fit me properly.  The woman that measured me gave me a size that was an entire cup smaller than the bra I was trying on that I was just barely fitting into, so I let her know that and she said "oh ok well just go with that one. it looks fine".  Not really the assistance I was looking for, but I decided to buy the bra and see how it works out.  After wearing it a few times I do not feel as though I have any support.  I am desperate to find a bra that actually fits comfortably and holds me up.  Any suggestions on where I could go to do this and hopefully not completely break the bank?

Thanks!

Re: Bra Fittings ?

  • I go to the lingerie place in Kenilworth Mall. The ladies there are great and actually take their time with you. The last two bras I bought from there were around $60 but SO worth it.

  • Nordstrom is pretty wonderful for bra fittings.  If you're in our neck of the woods, there's also a shop at Maple Lawn called Bra La La that's very good.

  • I've gone to Bare Necessities in Lutherville and had a fairly good experience, but they were really out of the way for me.

Having worked at JCP in college, I can tell you that most associates there are not trained to do bra fittings. I had to measure a customer once and had NO IDEA what I was doing. I tried to convince her to come back when some one who know what she was doing would be there, but this woman wasn't having it. At our store, I remember that they would have bra fitting specialist come in on specific weekends.

  • I echo the recommendation for Lingerie Lingerie in the Kenilworth mall.  Those ladies are pros and they have tons of sizes in stock.
  • I second Nordstrom. They are very helpful and fit me perfectly.

  • My first thought was Nordies also.  Soma at Towson Town does a good job of helping too and I like their bras.  And I think in August they have some pretty good sales.

  • bare necessities in greenspring valley is great, as is bra la la in fulton.  I've heard good things about Nordstroms too.  Even if you just get measured and then buy a bra elsewhere, it's good to get measured.

  • Thanks for posting this question. I'm in the same boat, getting ready to toss my nursing and pre-pregnancy bras and start over. I had heard good things about the store in Maple Lawn, but I'll also check out Nordstrom. Thanks for the question and the recs!
