.....little boy!
I have started this post about 5 or 6 times in the last week and never finished it, lol.
Andrew
Dixon B was born on Tuesday, 9 days late. He and I share a middle
name--it's an old family name on my mom's side. Andy was 9 lb 5 oz and
20.5 in long. He has a full head of hair, complete with side part.
I
had an amazing birth experience and feel like i want to tell everyone i
see about it....after 9 months of hearing every birth horror story
imaginable, i feel like people should know that it absolutely can be
amazing. I went in on Monday morning for the pre induction ripening and
it put me into labor on my own. I labored at home for 12 hours and then
at the hospital for another 8, through the night. At dawn I opted for an
epi, since I was exhausted and had been up for over 24 hours. It was
perfectly placed, I had sensation and movement and could direct my own
pushing. It was absolutely the right decision and i am so glad i did
it...proud to have labored without drugs for so long and happy i was
rested enough to enjoy the birth itself. I slept for a couple of hours,
woke up ready to push and he was born in less than an hour. My mom held
my hands and cried with me during the last push. My husband caught him
and placed him on my stomach and announced that he was a boy. We both
cried so hard. Andy quieted as soon as he was on my chest, lifted his
head, and locked eyes with me for about ten minutes. I'll never forget
that moment. I'm in tears just thinking about it.
Recovery has
been easy. One tiny stitch. Breastfeeding is a giant hairy whore and I
hate her. We are lucky enough to have lactation consultants coming to
the house every other day until his birth weight goes back up, since he
lost a pound and a half by Friday. he is back up 6.5 ounces since we
started supplementing with formula, and my milk finally started to come
in yesterday. We will get there.
Amusingly, my boss has not only
sent a giant floral arrangement to the hospital, but a huge gift basket
to the house AND a card signed by the entire office and a $200 BRU gift
card. What a dingleberry. Also I didn't get the job I interviewed for a
couple weeks ago, but I am ok with it. Funny how things just don't
matter now. Andy is as good as it gets and the rest is just noise.
