C-sections

Swelling?

I just delivered my baby boys via c section this past Sunday. The pain of the surgery is completely bearable, but I swelled a LOT. From my waist down, my legs and feet swelled to 3x the size if what they normally are. It's uncomfortable and difficult to do things. Every nurse and doctor tells me it's normal and will go away but it hasn't yet and it's almost been a week. Has anyone else experienced this? How long did it take to go down? TIA.

Re: Swelling?

  • Yep, completely normal. I've had two c-sections and thy pump you full of so much fluid afterwards.  I can't remember exactly how long, but I know it was more than a week.  I think maybe more like 2-ish weeks?

  • Totally normal.  I remember feeling freakish by the amount of post swelling.  Lie down, hydrate & elevate when you can.  It will probably last a week or 2

  • I didn't experience this but my SIL did after her c/s.  I think it took a week or two to go down.  She was told to drink a lot of water to help decrease the swelling.  GDLK!

  • Yes-not to scare you but it took a full six weeks for my swelling to go down.  My feet did not look like feet for that long.  Then again, I had terrible swelling issues the entire pregnancy so I may have gotten the extreme version of this.  Most people seem to get better with this within two weeks.

  • I had the same thing and I had my lo 2.5 weeks ago.  I just got so I could put on my wedding rings, but my right foot still swells.

I noticed a big difference when I drank 100 oz of water.   That is a big help to loose the fluids.

  • I was the most swollen about 3-7 days pp. It was insane! But it went away. Drink lots, stay off your feet.
