3rd Trimester

PSA: Dropping

Dropping is not an indication of pending labor. There is no magic decoder ring that says "baby will come xyz days/minutes/hours" after dropping. Some women don't drop until they are in active labor while others drop at 32 weeks. I know the end is hard and we all like to look for "signs" that the end is near, but please don't get your hopes up with dropping. It's like saying "I'm 2cm, I can go any day" and then walking around for 6 weeks at 2cm. Or being 0cm and going into labor that night!!!!

Re: PSA: Dropping

  • Yep, with DS I never really dropped until I was in labor.

  • That seems to be the case with everything, not just dropping.  Losing the mucus plug, having some contractions, being dilated, nothing really means anything and yes it could be the beginning of labor and yes it could still be a week or more.  The biggest thing I've learned from reading these boards, especially as I get closer to the end, is to not try to read anything into what my body is doing.  Just go with the flow, when it's real active labor, you'll know it and until then, it's not.

  • I know dropping doesn't mean labor is any closer, but I do know that I am so much more comfortable than I was last week.  It is amazing how much easier it is to breathe without a person up where your lungs should be!

So true. I seem to always drop early....like 32 weeks.  I think, for me, it has a lot more to do with my weak abs and the baby getting heavier in the third tri.
