Trying to Get Pregnant

Any of you experience this?

Hi! I'm new here!  My husband and I JUST started TTC in June.  My period is now 7 days late and I have YET to get a positive pregnancy test.  When my twin sister was pregnant, she didn't get a positive HPT until 10 days after her missed period.  She also had ZERO symptoms of pregnancy until she was 10 weeks.  So the fact that I also don't have any symptoms is not discouraging me quite yet.  My periods are usually very regular.  The ONLY thing I'm noticing is that I am constantly having a clear watery fluid come out of me.  Discharge you might call it - but that makes me think of something thicker.  Just the other night, I got up thinking, "yep - just got my period..." only to go to the bathroom and see that it was all clear.  So two questions -

 1. Any of you take FOREVER to get a positive HPT even though you were pregnant?

2. Any of you have a clear, watery fluid like discharge early in your pregnancy?

I made an appointment with my OB for next Thursday - even though my sister told me that you're supposed to wait until you're 8 weeks along.  I'm like "yeah, when you KNOW you're pregnant!"  I need to know what the heck is going on!

Thanks for your help!!

Re: Any of you experience this?

  • OH and I'm reading a lot about "charting"....I don't do that...yet.  I have to learn about it.  So hopefully responses don't ask me about temps and all that - because I have no idea.  I

  • Are you for real? You made an appointment at your OB because you're a few days late and testing negative? Wow.

You could have ovulated late (and probably did). Don't waste your Dr's time since you're testing negative. Wait until 60 days since your last period and then call your Dr. Unless you just enjoy throwing your money away and wasting your Dr's time.

  • Do you chart? Do you know when you O'd? You might just be having a long cycle (and have o'd later than you thought). So your period may still be on the way or you may be testing too early.

  • 1- No never been blessed with a BFP

2- Again, never been pregnant to know. :/

Anywho test weekly until you get your period or reach a 60 day cycle, then see doctor.

  • This watery discharge you speak of might be fertile cervical fluid.

You might be ovulating right now, go have sex.

  • My cycle is usually 32 days  -  like clock work.  I am now on day 39 of my cycle.  I made an appointment for day 50 of my cycle.  If I go 50 days without a period, I think that's a good reason to go in and find out what's going on - pregnant or not.  If I get a BFP before then, then I'll reschedule whenever they recommend that I come in calculating how far along I am.  I don't chart, but if I'm not pregnant, I'll definitely start reading up on how it all works.

  • "  My periods are usually very regular.  The ONLY thing I'm noticing is that I am constantly having a clear watery fluid come out of me.  Discharge you might call it - but that makes me think of something thicker.  Just the other night, I got up thinking, "yep - just got my period..." only to go to the bathroom and see that it was all clear."

The CM you are describing makes me think you could be gearing up to O. It is possible that you are having a longer cycle than "normal" and just don't know it. Please don't go to the doc. yet. There really is no reason to.

  • Ok - thanks everyone!

Like I said, we are JUST starting TTC.  I'm learning!  But it's hard not to wonder when your body is doing something weird.  I've had regular periods my entire life and to now be a week late the one month we have been "trying" just makes me wonder!  But I'll wait it out and just keep my fingers crossed.

  • Since you don't chart or temp, you don't really know when your period is due. You may have just ovulated later this cycle, even if you are very regular. If you just came off of birth control, that can certainly mess with your cycles.

There is no need to see your doctor at this point. As others have said, keep testing until either a) you get a positive test or b) it has been 60 days since your last period.

    As far as your questions:

    1) I got a positive HPT at the equivalent of 13DPO.

    2) I didn't have a lot of discharge until a later in my pregnancy (that I recall).

  • 1. Any of you take FOREVER to get a positive HPT even though you were pregnant? I was 12 weeks a long with DD (surprise baby) before I knew anything was up. So, yeah it took me a long time, but I was not trying or thinking about having a baby. I was on birth control. I thought I was having wonky periods/cycle at the time and didn't think I would be part of that 1% failure rate.

    2. Any of you have a clear, watery fluid like discharge early in your pregnancy? I didn't have symptoms of pregnancy or abnormal discharge at all.

You most likely ovulated late (if at all) and your period is not really late. Unless you chart you don't really know when you ovulated. Good luck.

PS- the doctor's appointment is very premature.

It's easy to get excited, nervous and worried over every detail since you are now focusing on it. The discharge you are noticing has been there mostly every single month, yet because you weren't TTC you didn't really pay attention to it. It's perfectly normal. I would check out the link at the top of the page, it has helpful information. Good Luck - Start charting on Fertility Friend website and this will help narrow your window as to a BFN or BFP.

  • Clear watery fluid is probably fertile cervical fluid, or it could be semen if you are having frequent sex.  We have sex about every other day, and what goes up must come down.  Or, in this case, what goes in must come out.   It definitely adds to my own normal discharge.  Also, as someone else mentioned, you are paying more attention now and might just be noticing normal CM for the first time.   I had been on the pill for a very long time, and the changes in my body the first few normal cycles were very startling.

     1. Any of you take FOREVER to get a positive HPT even though you were pregnant?  No, this is very rare.  I would say 95% of people that claim this don't actually know when they ovulated/conceived, thus they think they were further along when they got their positive than they actually were.

    2. Any of you have a clear, watery fluid like discharge early in your pregnancy? I've only been pregnant once and for four days, but no I did not get this.  Even if anyone has, every woman is different and every pregnancy is different.

I made an appointment with my OB for next Thursday - even though my sister told me that you're supposed to wait until you're 8 weeks along.  I'm like "yeah, when you KNOW you're pregnant!"  I need to know what the heck is going on!  Cancel your appointment, there is no need to go.  If the test says negative, you are not pregnant. No need to waste your time and the doctor's time.  Test once a week until you get your period, get a +HPT or reach 60 days with no period, THEN call your doctor.  Unless you know exactly when and if you ovulated, then you don't know if you are actually late...you probably just Od later than usual.

  • 1. If we were pregnant, we wouldn't be here.  This is TRYING to get pregnant.  Not I am pregnant.

    2. Read up about types of cervical mucus (cm) because you are having watery CM, which is a fertile type of CM.  If its thicker like egg whites, then that means you are probably about to ovulate or just did.  You don't have late periods, you have late ovulation.

    3. If you just came off of BC in June, expect your cycles to be wonky.  Not everyone has an exact 28 day cycle, in fact MOST of us on here do not.

    4. Read the newbie link.

  • Were your cycles regular because you were on birth control? I can't count how many times I've heard someone say they have a 28 day cycle, go off BC to TTC and then flip out thinking they're pregnant because their period is "late" because they don't know what their cycle is like naturally

     To answer the questions

    1. I got + tests at 10-11 days. That's pretty normal if you know when you ovulated. Without temping, you're flying blind and peeing on dollar bills for the most part.

    2. No, my CM was never noticeable in early pregnancy, both with my successful pregnancy and my m/c.  Watery discharge is only pre-ovulation for me

  • Thank you for your help, rxredhead!  At first I thought these were the "bite my head off" boards.  Woah - thrown in with the wolves! haha  Anyway, I haven't been on birth control for over a year, so that's not it.  I'm going to study up on charting so I don't walk into this journey blindly.  Because you're right, at this point the only reason I think I might be PG is that it's the first month we've had unprotected sex and no AF.  Of course I'm just getting excited/ahead of myself.  But til AF arrives or a + test, I'll just keep my fingers crossed.
