TTC After a Loss

Lurker coming out of lurkdom (pg, loss, baby mentioned)

I posted a question here a while ago and have been lurking since. I have had two losses and Im hitting the 1 year mark of going through all of this **deep breaths**. I didn't want to intro until I was ready to TTC again and ready to move forward with everything and accept that we have to go through this. My doctor ordered a RPL test and came back with higher level of antibodies. Were waiting to get approved to our new RE and I'm kinda having a hard time with this. Im missing my pregnancies, my first loss was at 5 weeks and the second was at 10. To top it off my SIL just gave birth and while Im happy for her its really a trigger for me and it's been a hard couple of days and I'm trying not to feel sorry for myself and I'm trying to move on. I really like that this board is a safe area and look forward to getting to know all of you!

  • Welcome to the board...our stories are similar. I just hit a year since we started all of this, have also had 2 losses (mine were at 5 1/2 weeks and almost 7 weeks), and I too had a higher level of antibodies after RPL testing. Are you talking about positive ANA? I had to go see a rheumy and everything. So far, negative for autoimmune, chrom abnormailites, etc.

It's scary, hard and we have just been given the clear to try again (from our RE). Good luck, and I hope you find the support you need on this board. I know I have! ((HUGS))

Our stories are very similar, yes to ANA. My obgyn told me I would be put on baby aspirin if that was in fact our only problem, so far thats all we know but probably getting tested for more. I keep reading online that half doctors seem to think it's not enough to cause mc then others seem to think it does. If you don't mind me asking what did your RE give you as a treatment plan? Thank you so much for responding and for the hugs! Its amazing to find woman that can totally relate and understand what I'm going through.

Thank you for the welcome! I really don't have a lot of people in my life that truly understand the heart ache of loss and fertility problems. A lot of people just like to think it will all be ok and don't see what its like with the ER visits, D&C's, meds, examines, 20 things of blood work. It sucks balls!

  • I am so sorry for your losses. Welcome to the board. The ladies on here have been so supportive.

So, I now have a reg OB, genetic specialist and an RE. Haven't seen my reg OB in a while, so I don't know what her thoughts are. I can tell you that my genetic/high risk doc, RE and Rheumy don't think positive ANA cause miscarriage...more so something to monitor. Now, if I was to test positive for RA, Lupus or an autoimmune disease, that would be different. Women can still have babies with these conditions, but they have to be watched and put on meds, typically. And I will say, they did testing after my D&C, and my baby was found to have a duplication of chromosome 15...so, that is the actual cause of my last mc.

My RE thinks we should go the baby aspirin route, my genetic/high risk disagrees, so when I see my reg OB next week for my annual, I'm going to get her opinion.

GL, and keep me posted on what your docs say. It doesn't seem to me that there has been enough research on all of it. SO.FRUSTRATING!

I agree that it doesn't seem like enough research has been done but I have read that some doctors think there's a link between positive ANA and other blood clotting issues. I'm nervous because I just want them to find something. Im not sure why my doctor reassured me that baby aspirin would do the trick and thats all that would be needed, only time will tell. The way my doctor described it he said the antibodies attach and inflame the embryo thus causing a miscarriage. Hoping my new RE will know more.

  • Thank you for all the welcomes! And thank you for directing me to the blog.
  • I know what you mean.  My IRL support is very limited.  This board has been a life saver in more ways then one.  You can say however you feel here and someone, if not all, will completely understand where you are coming from.  I am still in the process of mc and I am 109 days since it started.  If you ever need to vent or "talk" you can PM me.
