any ideas about bedtime?!

so i sleep trained ds a while ago and it was working very well, until he started teething. we got through that and it went back to being normal...then he started sitting up by himself from a lay down position and now we find him standing up all the time! it takes about an hour now from the time i lay him down until he finally falls aslepp because he keeps getting up! does anyone have any good ideas about what to do to cut this time in half or do we just have to deal with it?! thanks!!

Re: any ideas about bedtime?!

  • DS figured out how to stand up in his crib the night that I began sleep training. He'll stop eventually. Until then, just go in periodically, lay him back down, and he'll be fine. DS is currently in a stage where he talks to himself for.ev.er before he'll go to sleep.

Maybe make sure he has plenty of opportunity to practice his standing skills during the day, and make sure he's tired when you put him to bed? You could try moving his bedtime back a half hour or so if he doesn't seem tired when you put him down, but you might just have to wait until the novelty of standing up wears off.

  • DS gets a toy (Scout) in his crib and plays with him until he's asleep. That way if he's awake he's distracted and not screaming. It worked very well for us and it extends his naptime because there's a half hour of play time plus the actual nap.

  • M pulls up all the time.. She will pull up and whine "ahh ahh ahh ahhh" lol.. It's almost funny. No tears, just whining. I will go in every 20-30 mins and lay her back down on her tummy and pat her back/butt for a few minutes. Sometimes she pops right back up and sometimes she plays/talks and sometimes she drifts off to sleep. I think it's a phase and this too shall pass :)
