A girl on my FB just named her son this, but spelled it Decklan, so I took it that it was pronounced exactly as it's spelled. I don't get the appeal, I think it's an ugly name.

It's my guilty pleasure name, but DH would never go for it. I have loved it since I saw the movie leap year. It was the name of the lead character in the movie.

My nephew's name is Declan (Deck-lin). I had actually never heard it before my sister named him.

I love it. I had to get used to it for a day or two but I think it's an awesome name. And a bit different, without being made up.

Traditionally it's an Irish name. It's gaining more popularity in the States, especially in areas with larger Irish populations.

I guess if you're totally Irish, it would make sense, but I just don't like it! It's very harsh sounding, or just sounds like a last name.

There is a boy on my DS's t-ball team with this name. I like the name fine, but I really don't like the nn this boy has-- Deckie. It's ok on a 4 yo, but I can't see Deckie aging well. And that is all I have heard his parents call him so far.

This is #1 on my list. My family is very Irish and I love this name. DH won't get on board, but I've got time to convince him because we don't plan on getting pregnant again for another year or so.

Hmm It was ranked number #177 last year, up from #274, so while it's gaining in popularity it's hardly in the top 20.

We named our son Declan two years ago. It took some people a little getting used to (mostly the older folks), but the overwhelming response is that people LOVE it! We chose it because it was different but not inanimate object different, the meaning is so lovely (full of goodness), and we thought that it would age well (not too grown up for a baby, not cutesy on an adult). Two years in and we couldn't be happier we chose this as his name! Not gonna lie though - I hope it doesn't get TOO popular! Good luck!
