First birthday party

So, I've been trying to start plannng LO's first b-day party.  I've got a bunch of decorating inspiration pinned on pintrest, but I'm not really sure what to do at the party.   If it were a summer party, we could BBQ, and have a kiddie pool and bubble stuff and the like for any kids that might come.  But it's December. We're in GA, so it won't be snowing and freezing, but still not summer activities weather! ;)   I'm sure I'm not the only one planning the party already...has anyone else come up with any ideas for theirs?  As far as food and activities (or at least something to keep kiddos busy).

Re: First birthday party

  • Honestly, I haven't given much thought to it.  We will only have family which includes 10 nieces/nephews under age nine!  We'll have to hold it somewhere other than our home because it is just not worth all the cleaning prior to and after the party to have all those kids here.  No themes here, just good food and cake!

  • I'd love to be able to have it somewhere else...hate having people over at my house and all the cleaning i'll have to do!!  But it will probably only be a few people coming so its not worth having it somewhere else.

  • I try to start planning, but end up getting frustrated. DH is in the army so we are not exactly sure where we will be. DS was born on Christmas Eve so that's another "issue". I'm sure I will continue to stalk pininterest and this board until it nears.

  • Honestly a 1st birthday party is for the parents, not the child. For DS' 1st bday there were about 40 people (when our immediate families get together its about 30 people lol) and we invited a few friends who we were really close with. Between DS and his cousins and the few other friends there were maybe 12-15 kids and I didnt really plan any activities. I had some like coloring/crafty type activity out, a few balls to play with and a video showing for the kids and the adults just mingled. DS' birthday was in March so we couldnt do anything outside- we did it in the basement of my parents country club since they can rent it for free. We did a dinosaur theme and a chili bar for food (texas chili, veggie chili, white chicken chili and cincinnati style chili w/ a bunch of sides- spaghetti, cheese, onions, jalapenos, crackers, sour cream, etc. then we had a big dinosaur cake and ice cream).

  • I'm really torn about this with los bday party! With my first, he has a summer party (late May) so this past one, we did it at my parents farm, borrowed a huge blow up water slide from some friends, did a bunch of water balloons and cheapo squirt guns, and the family is still talking about the party (no one came home dry and even the adults had a ball on the slide!). Everyone had a blast. We had about 20 kids and around 45 adults (this was close family and a few friends- our immediate family is like 30 ppl with 15ish kids, we have a big family lol). So I want to do something equally fun for everyone, but I have no idea what to do! I was thinking gingerbread houses or something for the kids, but that could get expensive! Water stuff is so much cheaper lol. So I'd love some ideas as well. We won't be having it at our house though, since that many ppl would be crammed and I don't wanna clean that much lol.

  • i have a board on pinterest, i'm doing a winter onderland party. need to figure out some games etc to do with the kids.
  • DH and I have already started talking about making a video for his 1 year birthday.  Just pictures with music and some short video clips we've captured along the way.  It's more for us that anything, but we'd probably show that at the birthday "party".  We're not really planning a party though.  It's just so hard to get everyone together at once.  We'll probably have our parents...and maybe my brother and SIL (who live close) by over for dinner and cake.
