Sperm!

A friend told me and now I forget.

"male" sperm is slower but lasts longer and "female" sperm is faster and but die quicker?

So if I had sex before ovulation I have a better chance of having a boy, but if I had sex on ovulation day, I have a better chance of having a girl?

I know it is all chance and I would be happy with either sex, I'm just curious.

Re: Sperm!

  • We had sex almost every day during my O time, so I have no clue how to judge. I cannot remember how it goes for sure.

    Henry Cavill...You're welcome!

It's actually the opposite.  Female sperm are slower, but heartier.  Male sperm swim faster and die quicker.

    https://www.fertilityfriend.com/Faqs/Gender-Selection-The-Shettles-Method.html

So, theoretically (according to the Shettles method) the farther away from O you have sex, the more likely you are to have a girl.  Closer to O, boy.

Shettles is bunk, IMO.  But you have a 50/50 shot either way!

    Thanks!

  • I've heard the opposite - my mom says she tried this "method" and swears that's why she had me.

  • But... why does that make much difference (if at all) since sperm can survive for a while in fertile cervical fluid?  Meaning, so what if the "female" (or male... I forget what was said) get there first?  That doesn't mean that they'll be the one to fertilize the egg.

    Interesting though.

I thought it was the other way around but I'm not sure. There's a whole book about it. Dr Brown or something I think.

ETA Shettles, I should have read the replies first.

Same here. We did it everyday for like 5 days so who knows!

  • I heard female sperm is slower but lives longer so if you had sex before ovulation it's more likely the female sperm would be alive a few days later to fertilize the egg.

    Interesting though.

If the egg is already there in the fallopian tubes, technically the male sperm will reach it first, since they are faster.

If the sperm have to hang out in the tubes a day or two and wait for the egg to drop, there will be more female sperm around than male since they live longer.

You need to watch The Great Sperm Race!  Smile

Definitely!! You can watch The Great Sperm Race on youtube, I believe there are 6 - 10 min. episodes. It's amusing and give you lots of details on conception.

  • In this case I should be having a girl!  We'll see!

  • This theory is exactly why I think I'm having a girl.  And to pp who thinks it's bunk, actually, there really is scientific evidence to support it.  It's not the Chinese gender chart that only has 50/50 chance of being right.  There are real statistics and actual science behind it.
