My husband and I had a very traumatic night last night. This is our first baby and it took us over a year and a half to conceive. I'm 13 weeks pregnant now and so far things were going great. But last night I used the bathroom and noticed quite a lot of blood. It was like I had just gotten my period. I haven't had any spotting or anything so far so I panicked. It was after midnight so we rushed to the ER. After a 2 hour wait they finally gave me an ultrasound. The baby is fine, moving around and heartbeat was normal,so that was a relief. But the doctor on call said that it looks like I have Placenta Previa. I had no idea what that was so I've been trying to do some online research while I wait to see my OB. The waiting is killing me. Does anyone out there have Placenta Previa? I would love to hear from someone in the same position.
Re: Placenta Previa?
I don't have PP but wanted to say I hope everything turns out okay. I have heard that some women who experience this earlier in pregnancy turn out to be alright because the placenta migrates up the uterus as it enlarges as pregnancy progresses. Conversely, my aunt was discovered to have PP at about 26 weeks of pregnancy and had to stay on bedrest for the remainder because hers was really severe.
I hope some others can chime in and offer you some support. Just take it easy until you can get some clarification from your OB. Take care.
I have complete placenta previa (there are 3 levels, moderate, partial & Complete). I'm currently on pelvic rest. No sex, no exercise, no lifting (though I still pick up my son). I was dx'd at a 13 week u/s for something else. My next u/s is 18 weeks.
This is something that can fix itself & it can fix itself up to just weeks before you give birth.
The bleeding is a huge red flag, if it doesn't stop bed rest is very likely. I've been told already that if this doesn't clear up bed rest later is very likely. There are issues like PTL & the placenta dislocating from the uterus (these are reasons why later in pregnancy women go on bed rest). But these are worst case type things. And at the end of the day bed rest sucks (I was on it for 3 weeks with my son because of hypertension) but it is what it is.
Don't freak out too much yet. See what your doctor says, hopefully the bleeding has stopped. and just take it easy so it doesn't happen again. It's really all we can do. I'm monitored by a high risk doctor, so I will get an u/s every 3-4 weeks until/unless it clears up.
