Stolen from April2012 - BFing/weight loss

A post over there said:

"You?ve probably heard the delicious fact that breastfeeding uses up the fat stores you laid down in pregnancy. The greatest weight loss is seen in the three to six month period (Moody et al). You?ve just hit the start of this uber fat-burning period."

I'm looking forward to this hopefully being true! My weight loss stalled a few weeks after she got here and its annoying.

  • I've read that for each oz of breast milk you produce, you burn 20-40 calories.  This means I'm burning over 800 calories a day just pumping!  Definitely motivation to keep going when I feel discouraged.  I'm hit my prepregnancy weight a couple of weeks ago so I can attest that it's true!

  • I feel like I have stalled too.  Twentyish pounds fell off so easily in the first few weeks and now I am hoovering around a certain weight.  Granted, I think I could make some better food choices but I haven't been eating horrible this whole time.  I am also not exercising unless you count going up and down my stairs as exercise ;)  I am ready to loose this extra 10 pounds!

  • Did you hear that, Body Fat? You better obey! (yes, I'm talking to my body fat. Don't judge me. I gotta try everything that might help. hahaha)

  • I heard this last time I was breastfeeding...it never happened. Here's to hoping it does this time!
  • Great news!  Hope that's true for me, too.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Not true at all for me.  At almost 8 weeks PP I lost a pityful 13 lbs.  "Only" 35 more to go and an additional 15 I put on while dealing with infertity.  If I sound al little bit bitter its because I am.  I cant even fit into my wedding rigs or my shoes.  Ugh.

  • I read this the other day. I hope it's true! I can't seem to lose that last 5ish lbs.
  • That would be great.  I have gained a bit, but have been eating like crap.  My activity level is already much higher with going back to work, but I need to get into regular exercise and need to eat better.  Much better.

  • Ditto for hoping this is true. I lost all the pregnancy weight within the first month plus 3 lbs, but I haven't budged since then. I would love to lose the extra weight I had on my prior to getting pregnant.

I would love to have my flat stomach back. Weight is gone but very soft in the middle. guess I need to do some crunches too. :)

  • I have found this to be true as well. Lost 40lbs so far, about 15 more to go. I also find if I restrict my calories too much my milk production suffers so I'm trying to eat well when hungry and not worry too much about the weight. I think in due time it will come off. image
