Those of you with an older child

So is it just me or did car seats get huge in the past few years? I drive a small car and was looking at seats at babies r us the other day and was thinking how the heck am I gonna fit one of those huge things backwards in my car.

So are you following all the new guidelines put out or still going off the old ones? My sister in law is still using bumpers in her crib and I have a friend who is still flipping her kids forward at a year old. All because that was the way you did things when they had there first baby.

Re: Those of you with an older child

  • With DS1 the carseat rule changed about a month after a turned him around. I was not turning him back around at that point. This time I'm not sure. I will probably keep DS2 rear facing as long as I can, but I don't like our convertible car seat when it is rear facing. It's tall and I can't pass things back without dropping it on his head.

  • I'm keeping the rear facing longer than two years I have 2u2. If you look at the videos online why they should stay rear facing it seems like a no brained to me.  My childrens safety is so much more important to me than extra leg room or ease of seeing them. But I also kept my now 8 year old in a 5point harness until he was over four and he's still in a booster before all the new guidelines I've always thought the safer the better.

  • My ODS was rear facing until his FIFTH birthday! I will keep the baby rear facing just as long. I suggest a Diono seat for a more narrow but wonderful seat. Way better than our Britax seats. :)

  • We used bumpers in the crib with DD, but did not turn DD forward facing in her car seat until just before I had DS because I was no longer able to get her into her seat being that pregnant. DD is a bigger almost 2 year old so we felt confident doing it.
