We are having LO's 1st Birthday Party next weekend...about 25 family members...mostly adults. Party starts at 12PM, located in New England. Having a hard time deciding on what to have for food. Any ideas??
We're having a combined for both our girls next weekend also. We didn't want to be confined to having to cook out because it is so hot and we've done that in the past with DD#1's birthday and IT.IS.NO.FUN. I have chafing dishes that I will put out with ziti, meatballs, chicken marsala and some plain pasta. That way, it can be indoors or out (depending on the weather) and I can make a lot of the stuff ahead of time and freeze it (ziti and meatballs). We'll do a big salad, some rolls and maybe a few hotdogs on the grill for kids. Easy peasy.

We are also in New England and it has been pretty warm. Our party isn't for another month, but my plan is to do everything that I can cook ahead of time or prep that morning in a crock pot. I really don't want to be cooking or doing anything but enjoying the day!
We are doing for 25 - 30 people:
Pulled pork (crock pot)
Mac & cheese (day before)
grilled chicken (hubby will do day before and we will slice it into strips that morning)
salads (pasta, potato, garden, macaroni - all day before or brought by our parents)
lemonade (spiked and regular)
waters, juice boxes, beer
I am attempting to make raspberry lemonade cupcakes and frozen lemonade slushy cups for dessert.
We are having it catered. For $7 per person we can get fried chicken, bbq, 2 sides, tea, all the ice and paper products. I am going to pick it up right before the party starts. I am also going to make one more side or two (prob fresh fruit). I figure I can't make food much cheaper han that, and it saves me the hassle so I will be able to enjoy the party.
Originally, I was just going to serve cake & ice cream. But Arizona in August is HOT....so we're thinking the party will be early evening. So I was thinking pizza. Its cheap, and there will be about 50 people there (we have a HUGE family....that's just close family! And its a combined bday for both my DD and hubby's grandpa....they share a bday) not sure yet

I would do pizza, too if I were you. You could add a fresh fruit bowl and maybe one more side. You should be able to feed everyone for less than $200
I second the pulled pork in crockpot. Did this and it was cheap (costco) and easy to prepare. We bought the meat, rolls, cole slaw and sides all at Costco. Cheaper than catering and very little work on our part.
This year we might make sandwiches on rolls and then buy the sides at Costco again.
