Anyone have a glass of wine?

So I had a glass of wine yesterday at my baby shower (the stress of Mom and MIL in the same room was too much to handle)  The baby started moving like crazy.  Am I just paranoid or do you think the wine effected him?

Re: Anyone have a glass of wine?

  • If anything the wine would calm baby down since it's a depressant, not a stimulant.  It was probably the stress that got baby going.

  • My baby moves a lot even if I drink water, so that probably isn't cause for concern. I'd be more worried if she wasn't moving. That said, I'm too paranoid to have a glass of wine.

LO moves any time I eat or drink, no matter what it is.  I just finished lunch and am getting kicks & jabs & rolls as I type this.  No alcohol involved.

  • I had a glass of wine before Neil Diamond last Sunday with my Mom and Grandma.  Baby rocked out the whole concert.  I would say there's nothing to be concerned about.

It's one glass of wine and your baby is already developed.  There is nothing traumatic that 1 glass of wine will cause, unless your glass was the size of a fish bowl.

  • Yes, I had two half - glasses of wine when I was newly pregnant at work functions to keep the "are you pregnant?" at bay?

    I'm not concerned.

  • I drink a very small amount of wine every now & then, but it just seems to relax the baby just like it relaxes me!

If you are really concerned, ask your doctor.

That said, my baby moves more frequently if I drink (or eat) something (anything- water, decaf coffee, soda...) and/or sit down. So I am sure that is all that caused baby to move was the idea that you drank something and you most likely sat down around that time.

This. LO moves the second I eat / drink anything so I'm sure you're fine.

  • Wine has sugars in it.  I know sugar gets my baby moving a lot, so that probably had a lot to do with it.

Good for you? Pretty sure OP isn't exactly pounding bottles of wine...

  • I have a glass of wine here and there and sometimes she moves more and sometimes she doesn't. Likewise, when I drink water, sometimes it makes her move and sometimes it doesn't. Many doctors not only say that a glass here and there is fine but also drank occasionally with their own pregnancies. One glass of wine isn't going to affect your LO.

I'm not adding anything new, but thought that I'd throw my voice into the mix.  I've had a glass of wine a handful of times during my pregnancy.  I did find once that the baby got more active, like he sometimes does when I drink juice.  No worries at all!  I'm sure  you deserved that glass of wine, and don't cause yourself any more stress over it.

P.S. Not that I'm against breakfast wine! Wink

It's socially acceptable if you mix it with juice and call it a "mimosa" or something.

Which reminds me: fresh pineapple juice and prosecco? Delicious.

Exactly.  The baby was like "ZOMG YUM SUGAHHHH!"  It's fine.  I promise.  I've had a sip here and there and am not at all worried.

Yes, it was my first glass of wine and it was a special occasion

  • Wine has a lot of sugars in it--maybe baby was reacting to the sudden sugar spike (especially if you had some cake, too :) ).  I wouldn't worry.

  • I had a glass of wine a while ago and my LO bounced around like the party had started, too. It's so funny because one glass is usually enough to make me want a nap. I looked over at H and said, "This kid definitely has your tolerance." :)

Nothing to worry about, I don't think.
