July 2012 Moms

Late July Mommas...

I'm due the 31st and haven't been doing ANYTHING to encourage LO to come for a few reasons.  Mostly, I had a premie with my first and I was doing anything I could to NOT encourage that to happen again (staying super hydrated, trying to stay off my feet, etc).  I guess I figured I'd go early since I was early with my first and the second tends to come even more quickly.

Lastly, we have been in the middle of building a new house, so I've had soo many important decisions and things to do that I felt it was easier to handle with only one toddler and not an infant as well.

Well, things finally slowed down and I'm wondering if I should be walking more to encourage dilation.  Its just so freakin' hot I don't really want to be outside with my son pushing the stroller or what not.

So...in short..are you ladies encouraging LOs to come already?  I know there is only so much control we have over things, but I'm wondering if I should prep so I can encourage dilation and avoid induction.

I'm just 38 weeks, so I know I still have some time ;)

Re: Late July Mommas...

  • Nope.  For most women, 'trying' to convince baby to come out at this stage is just going to be exhausting and frustrating.  Waiting and obsessing is frustrating enough for me, and I don't even expect baby until 40+ weeks - I'm too lazy to add in other things to get my hopes up! :)

ive just been walking lately. Shes measuring a week ahead so hopfully it'll either a) make her come or b) make labor a "tad" easier

  • I figure he/she will come when they are ready...plus I don't want to tire myself out in the event I do go into labor...I think regardless of what you do the baby will come when they are ready...good luck!!
May you always have in your arms the one who is in your heart.

  • I'm 38+5 today. I did acupuncture at 38+1 because I knew my OB was going to start pushing hard for induction (twins) and I'm not willing to use pitocin. Well, by 38+2 I was dilated to 5cm and my contractions are still milder than period cramps. It was enough to keep my OB from telling me to head to the hospital, but I'm taking my lack of labor as a good enough sign that these babies aren't quite ready yet.  I don't know how long I'm going to let this go on, because obviously risks do go up with twins, but for today, I'm not doing anything to encourage my body to go into labor.

  • Yes, my due date is this Wednesday so I have been trying to get him to come out. It hasn't worked though Sad

  • I am due the 28th. I am not really trying all that much either. I go on walks when I can, but I have been doing that throughout the pregnancy. I did buy some pineapple, but my reflux is so bad its hard to get it down. There is no way I could eat a whole one! lol.

I had to be induced at 38w with DS. While its kind of weird that I am the most pregnant I have ever been, I really want this LO to come on his terms if possible. So I am happy to wait it out. If we get into August though, I might be singing a different tune!

  • I'm in a similar position as you - busy with a move and a toddler. I'm so pregnant and tired though that I don't know if it would be easier to just have him out so I have my body to myself again. Anyway, we live in a city where a lot of walking is just part of living here so I have been walking a lot. I haven't thought much about it though - since the fetus initiates parturition I recognize that I'm not really in charge of when he comes!

  • Sounds like most of us are all on the same page..they will come when they come!

It's funny because I feel like every other post last week was "GET THIS BABY OUT", so I thought I was the only one who wasn't quite so anxious.  However, I still have 2 weeks to my due date...my opinion may severely change by then ;)

  • Nope!  I am not doing anything to encourage LO to come early.  I would like her to arrive between 40 and 41 weeks, so I am relaxing an enjoying the quiet time before she gets here.
  • I'm due on the 31st too and no I haven't been doing anything.  I won't even have my first internal exam at the doctor's office until later this week so I figured there was no use in trying to rush thing, plus most of the stuff that is recommended are just old wives' tales anyway and may not even work.  If I have my exam this week and find that I'm dilating, then maybe I'll start walking or having more sex, but really the only thing you can do is wait.

I'm due the 31st as well. I'm not doing anything to encourage labor. We just moved yesterday and I really don't want to bring LO home to a house full of boxes. I'd love for him to stay out for at least another week. DS2 was born earlier than this and I had a lot of false labor last week so I've been pleasantly surprised that LO has waited this long.

Around 39.5 weeks, I'll probably start walking again if he hasn't arrived yet but I think that I'm moving around enough now (chasing two kids and moving) anyways.

  • I'm due on the 29th, but getting induced on the 22nd since baby is measuring very big, I have GD, and my DD was 9 lbs 9 oz and had complications at birth due to her size.  I would prefer to go into labor on my own, so I've been doing everything to induce naturally!!  Nipple stim, sex, walking, spicy food, membranes stripped at my last appointment.  I was at 3 cm at my last appt and then had 2 episodes of intense, regular contractions over the weekend, so I'm thinking I'm probably at 4 cm now.  Come on, baby!

  • I am 38ws. I was trying little things here and there not really all over it but just seeing. I have been taking Cale for a walk almost every night. But my wanting to see what we can do has everything to do with i only have about a week left because my OB is inducing next week, and i really want to go into labor on my own cause i want to have a natural birth just like i did with Cale. So yeah i have been kinda seeing what will happen if we do this. I dont know how much longer LO is goin to be waiting around though. I have been in the early stages of labor for two days. LO its okay to come out and meet mommy and daddy. :)
