As I posted earlier about my due date getting moved back (I am now 40 weeks one day)- I do have an appointment on Tuesday (OB requested to see me back in 5 days verses a week). This appt. will include an ultra-sound and they *may* (hopefully not) discuss induction. My doula (also a direct entry MW) and I have discussed that if this occurs we would get induction put off as long as possible and try acupuncture or caster oil first (Castor oil would be under her supervision). Has anyone else tried other "natural" ways of induction- I've been drinking raspberry leaf tea and have been having sex. I'd rather explore all other options before we hit the intervention table of a membrane sweep- proglastorine (sp?) gel- or other options. I'm wondering if someone knows something I don't.
Re: Natural induction...hmmmm
I had a 'natural' induction after my water broke and I didn't go into labor. I was GBS+ and refused a hospital induction (their policy was induce within 8 hrs of membrane rupture if GBS+). Here's what I did at the advice of MWs and doula:
- smoothie with Verbena, Castor Oil, nut butter and juice. Had to have a 2nd one after labor stalled but it seemed to get things going again.
- acupuncture. Had a treatment after my water broke.
Not sure any of these would help if your water hasn't broken.
PS. I've heard of Verbena tea to try and get things going as well. The Verbena my MWs gave me was highly concentrated and I just did a few drips in the shake.
Thank you everyone. I was really surprised that they didn't mention induction at this appointment however I was told to expect the discussion at my next appointment this monday.
I'm hoping to try acupuncture first- however I really appreciate the other ideas. Thank you.
Also- baby is apparently in "great" position for birth- so I don't know. I have had my doula do a pelvic release on me a few times now as well as some things on the yoga ball.
