Nursing nightgown for hospital???

This isnt specifically designed for nursing, but im thinking with the buttoned henley top, it should make it very easy.  What do you think??

Re: Nursing nightgown for hospital???

  • Wear the gowns the hospital provides. They are designed for nursing, and when you defile them with bodily fluids you don't have to deal with it.

I didn't want to fart around with buttons to nurse.

  • I wouldn't want to fool with buttons but I also hated the hospital gowns. I wore yoga pants and a nursing tank the entire time.  They weren't ruined by bodily fluids, either. (I also had a c-section and the yoga pants never bothered my incision.)
  • ive had two babies and i know i hate the hospital gowns and i typically tear badly so a nightgown is pretty much a must since they always checked me so often.  Jut wondering if you thought i'd get good boob access with this.

  • I have a few henley nightgowns that I used for nursing last time -- the only issue is how far the buttons come down.  I have one that I really have to hoist my boob up and out of, but for the most part, they do work.  If you're at all handy with a needle and thread removed the buttons, sew them on the button hole placket so they still show and attach snaps where the buttons used to be as closures.  Makes the gown great for when you get home and those middle of the night feedings.

In theory, it does look like it would work.  I would double-check that the buttons are actually functional - with the bow at the top, it almost looks like they are decorative and maybe it doesn't actually open???

I could also see an issue with buttoning/unbuttoning every 2ish hours with a newborn.  It could become tedious - maybe look for a "wrap"-type top, or something that you can just pull down, so that you can just whip a boob out instead of having to unbutton.

I like this idea...I could totally do that

  • I think that would work well; you could probably leave the top couple buttons undone without being exposed, so it might not be much of a pain to do the buttons.  My mom had found me some that zipped down, which were awesome, but I'm not sure where she got them.

I just used the hospital gowns last time but wore nightgowns almost 24/7 for awhile once we came home. I really like those, can I ask where you found them? I might want to get a couple!

I would ask if they have nursing gowns for new moms at the hospital. I liked them because a) I bled on them despite the industrial size pads and b) they had two discrete vertical slits for nursing. They were quite long and allowed me to have easy access for nursing c) I really didn't mind the material and they were lose and comfy. Call me crazy.

I delivered in a regular gown then they gave me the new gowns once the baby arrived. I didn't even want to look at my delivery gown.

Target has some really cute actual nursing nightgowns.

I guess if I was spending money, I'd want something cute. Not something grandma.

  • Target has some Long nightshirts now that are great for nursing and would be good on the hospital. Look for them. They are a jersey material and the front neckline has wide elastic gathered neck. It stretches way down to make it way to pop out a boob.

  • Found it! Posting from my phone so too much trouble for a link, but go to target.com and search: fluid knit gown. It's so soft!
