1st Trimester

New here! :0) Question about emotions....

So I have known for about a week now, and the last two days, I have been an emotional wreck. Is this normal? According to the due date calculator im nearing 5 weeks along. I am sometimes tearful, sometimes mean, and just have a million thoughts running through my head. I am so tired, I just want to lay down and never move again. I am excited and happy to be pregnant, so I would love for this grumpy attitude to go away. Will it? Or is it here to stay?

Re: New here! :0) Question about emotions....

  • Congrats and welcome!  All the things you have described are normal.  For me, the mood swings/random crying lasted throughout the 1st tri.  Then, 2nd tri was awesome - felt great, had tons of energy, and was mostly emotionally stable.  Then 3rd tri, it started to go downhill again.

Try to enjoy it all the best you can.  This will be our last baby, so I'm really trying my best to soak it all up. :-)

  • The first week I found out, I kept having episodes of weeping/ laughing at the same time. Since the I've gotten weepy a couple times, but not much. Just a quicker temper. Totally normal!

  • This last week,  I have cried because Andy Griffith died.

I giggled with happiness at my new bath mats.

And I screamed at my poor basset hound for whining (which she does, every day all day, and is nothing new).

I hope this goes away in a reasonable time frame.

  • I know for me, the extreme exhaustion was the reason I took a pregnancy test.  And I am tired all the time.  I take a nap each day I get the opportunity too.  I would say this is normal. As far as the grumpy attitude, I have that too.  My doctor says this is normal. I thought I would be in a happier mood since I have always looked forward to being pregnant. Hope this helps.
  • Thanks guys! I actually already feel better knowing that im not alone, and someone else is experiencing the same things I am right now. I have so many feelings running through me that I did not think I would have, one being extreme fear. Fear of losing the baby, fear of actually having a baby, fear of losing my job, so many fears. I truly am overjoyed, and ecstatic to be a momma. Such conflicting emotions lol. This is a first time for me.

  • This is my second pregnancy and with the first my emotions were not affected. This time around I have been crazy mean =/ And i'm not proud of it. Bottom line, I hope its normal to go through this and I PRAY it goes away. Good luck :0)

If you knew how lonely my life has been And how long I've been so alone And if you knew how I wanted someone to come along And change my life the way you've done

  • Yeah, it's normal, but it sucks.  I have been really annoyed by everyone and everything the past few weeks.  I snip at people for no reason and cry at the drop of a hat.  Just don't make any major life decisions in the next few months and you'll live through it. Smile  I remember this getting better with the arrival of second trimester and I was downright giddy and overly nice to people come third trimester (up until I hit the 40 week mark with no baby in sight!), so hopefully history will repeat itself.  I think when you feel like crap all the time and want to puke, you just wish people would leave you alone or bring your oreos and it brings out the worst in you. :)

  • Well. As of today....I am going nuts mood swing wise. I have like zero tolerance. Our AC not working for a while did not help. My extreme sinus stuffiness is also not helping. BLEGH. Anyway, sorry..I feel your pain.

  • I'm glad it's normal, because it's happening to me, too. My husband and I watched a movie last night, and I cried at least ten times. Even at the  parts that were not sad AT ALL. Then I would be laughing because it was so ridiculous to be crying because Christian Bale wanted to  feed the kitten to the ATM. Lol!! I am a WRECK.
  • I'm a total wreck. DS cried when I dropped him off at daycare (nothing new there) and I cried all the way to work. I am super mean to DH. In fact we are currently not speaking.
  • I don't remember feeling so emotional my first pregnancy, but I feel very weepy/moody so far with this one.  I just hope I'm not a typical moody pregnant woman the whole pregnancy!

  • That is totally normal. I cried when I watched a dog food commercial yesterday (don't ask... I can't explain it either).
