Cake Smash- Clothes or no clothes?

For the cake smash (or piece of cake, or cupcake, or whatever if you plan to (or did) have cake for LO) will/did LO wear clothes or just wear a diaper? Just curious. 

We CD so I bought a new cute diaper for DD to wear while eating her cake and she'll be wearing a dress for the rest of her party.

    Oh gosh! Diaper only for sure!!! Icing can stain clothes so you wouldn't want that. 

    For DS 1 it was a total disaster, he really smeared the cake around on himself. It covered the highchair.

    For Dylan we put an old towel in the highchair and sat him on the towel.When he was finished we scooped him up in the towel and carried him to the bath. Dylan didn't get as messy as his big brother though, he's more gentle with things.

    He wore a bow tie.  For his most recent due date photo shoot he wore a regular tie. I just ran the tie under warm water and the frosting washed right out.

    We did clothes. Mostly to make a cute picture. But we also brought a change of clothes for afterwards.

    We did clothes and a bib, but...she had no interest in smashing her cake. She just picked the strawberries off the top and ate them.

    We had a pretty party dress for most of the party, but then when it was time for cake we just changed her into a romper that we got.

    our party is tomorrow and was planning on putting a bib over her white onsie that sayd My 1st Birthday but now maybe  I will do just diaper or diaper and a bib

    A tie is such a great idea, I think I might have to copy that.  He doesnt really get many other chances to wear his tie.
