I just had my baby Monday. The first IV the nurse tried to put in after saying "did you leave your veins at home?" (which made me feel so confident in her abilities) was not successful, and as a result, I have bruising in my knuckles. My hand is still VERY sore. Is this normal? The bruises hurt to the slightest touch and I think it's weird they are in my knuckles.

I have crappy veins so this happened to me as well...only it took my nurses 4 tries to get my IV started. I ended up with a large hematoma on my left hand so my entire hand was swollen and bruised. The bruising lasted a good 2 weeks for me and was sore to the touch for about that long as well. Hopefully yours wont last as long!
