Worst thing someone has tried to feed LO

I'm going to go with Cheesepuffs and brownie.... I mean, do I even need to elaborate? Luckily I caught it before it reached his mouth!

Re: Worst thing someone has tried to feed LO

  • My grandma wanted to give her a sip of her sweetened iced tea. Uh, sugar plus caffeine plus baby equals a pissed off mama!

My parents give DS1 (22m) sweet tea in a sippy cup sometimes when they watch for him. He sees them drinking it, wants a sip, then wants his own. It drives me NUTS. We do only milk or water in our house!

Luckily, DS1 loves water & constantly asks for "ice water"-- I'm trying to keep it that way!!!

  • My parents have given DD coffee and wine. I'm fighting a losing battle with them when it comes to what my daughter ingests. They're the ones who forced solids on us at 5 months by going and buying rice cereal and purees (without my permission) and feeding them to DD because it would "help her sleep better". DD is almost 8 months and is still getting up 4-6 x/night...

  • *sigh* Let me remind everyone about the grape soda incident at Easter. Lets see what else? MIL gave LO a taste of honey! My stepmom let him taste sweet tea, lemonade & lick a cheese doodle.

These things happened while DH & I were present. This is why my child will only stay with people that I trust to follow our wishes.  At home DS only gets formula & water. Granted, we are doing finger foods(he gets some of whatever we are eating for dinner) but I'm not feeding him chips & chocolate cake or anything.

I remember that one. And there was someone not too long ago who mentioned diet soda as well.

  •  I think the worst would be a whole chip from a Mexican restaurant.. let's see how fast he can choke on those sharp edges!  I was right there and took it away.

I'm not real uptight (not saying anyone is!) so I'm actually okay with a lot of what LO has had.  He's had ice cream, frosting, chocolate and probably a lot more that other people wouldn't be okay with.  Everything he has been given has been in small quality and it's not like he is getting cake on a daily basis (or even weekly!)

My family is really the only ones and my big requests are that there is no soft drinks and no sweet tea.  I wouldn't even mind him having a sip of sweet tea but I don't want him to like it too much and think that it is a regular drink.

  • Maybe this makes me a bad mom, but she's had bites of cake and ice cream and even sucked on a sucker, and it didn't bother me. It's not like I'm giving her these things for every meal, so I don't see what's wrong with a tiny nibble of cake every once in a while.

  • No one has given him anything "bad" in my opinion. My step-dad did give him a piece of a cracker that was too big and too hard. He choked on it, and I had to slap his back to get it up. :(

I tried not to freak out but I will soon be taking a baby CPR course. I know I should have done it sooner.

We are bad moms together! ;)

I've given bits of cake and ice cream, but my annoyance with my example was that we hadn't even started solids yet.

  • Nothing.  With DD's allergy and eating issues I would cut anyone who tried!

I totally understand!  I would have FREAKED out if someone tried feeding her a snack before we started solids :)

  • Nothing. I don't associate with idiots that would feed more than a taste of something to a baby that they shouldn't have and I don't think a taste is going to hurt her.

  • My cousin gave DS a bite of a cookie while we were waiting at the hospital today. I almost said no, but he never eats that so I let her give him some. I'm just happy that she asked me before doing it.
