Bummed about DH vacation

Warning: No point to this post!

So, my DH has to pick out his vacation weeks in November for the following year. Last November we were TTC and didn't know how long it would take, but he decided on two weeks in May and then one in September and one in October in case there was a baby in the house then. This whole time I've thought how great it is that he is going to have two weeks off with the baby shortly after he is born.

Well, we couldn't remember the exact dates of his vacations so he looked them up at work and bummer- the September one is the week of the 10th-15th and my due date isn't until 9/20! At our 20 week a/s the tech said he was measuring big and said our due date was 9/14- but our doctor doesn't actually change anything based on that; plus, the chance of going past your due date is pretty high as a FTM so I kinda doubt the baby will arrive before that week is up.

I realize there is absolutely no point to this post and I just have to look at it as one last week together before the baby arrives, but I'm still bummed. DH works so hard at his job (50 hours a week) and I was really excited for him to have this time off to be with the baby. In the grand scheme of life- no big deal, but it stinks!

  • If this posts twice, it's because my internet is acting up.

Considering the circumstances, could he get it approved to move the dates?

H's job also requires him to put in for his vacation a year in advance, but when he found out we were expecting, they allowed him to take his two weeks after the baby is born, and they're even saying that he can adjust it to when the baby actually arrives.

That's an idea- the only thing is the company he works for is not family friendly and a few years ago it was hard for him to get the week off we needed for our honeymoon. I hadn't thought of that as an option, so I'm definitely going to suggest it; he said he'd just take some unpaid days when he is born, which is fine, I just thought the timing was going to work out so perfectly where he'd get that extra week with his son.

  • I hope they agree to it.

Knowing that H will be home for the first 2 weeks after LO arrives makes my heart melt with happiness, because I know he'll get to bond more with him.

I sincerely hope that your H gets the same opportunity. Maybe it won't be a big deal, since he's willing to work the week that he's scheduled for vacation in exchange for the week off a week or two later.
