I work at a resturant and am still on maternity leave for another month but am helping out with a catering event Saturday. It's from 3-11 so I'll need to pump.
How do you bring it up to your boss? Like I said I work in a restruant so it's not like I can close my office door and just do it. I'll be at someones holiday party serving food. I checked the FMLA laws and everything and Virginia does not require employers to let mothers take time out to pump in only encourages them.
I know we are both adults but I can't help but think how akward this conversation is going to be. I'm the first employee to go out on maternity leave and he doesn't have kids so I'm a bit afraid he isn't going to see that I really can't go 8 hours.
Re: need pumping at work advice
I was able to "tap dance" around it w/ my manager. I just said "as you know, there are certain "things" that I need to attend to...which require "privacy"...in order that I can "feed my baby" each day. It was so awkward for him, he turned red and stammered that he was sure it would all work out!
Maybe you can bring a receiving blanket or two and the roll up your car windows w/ the blanket in the window for privacy and pump in your car. That's what I would do. Definitely don't pump in the bathroom there are nasties in the air. GL!
