DS is going into Kindergarten and reading really well but he mostly picks out short baby/toddler books for me to read to him, I think it is b/c we read before bed and he reads a level 1 book to me and then is tired. I need suggestions for chapter books to read to him, he is not into any typical boy things like super heros or sports, so any other thoughts? And feel free to include more typically girl books too. Thanks

Re: What are good books to read to a 5-7yo?
My son loved to read Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little with me. We would take turns reading. I ended up reading more than he did because the books were a little beyond his level but he liked the back and forth. He also loved the Billy & Blaze books, I'm not sure if your DS likes horses but my S loved them. They have short chapters, pictures and larger print.
I love children's books (it's basically all I give as gifts. Bc I am a giant geek). The EB White books are great. I would add Trumpeter Swan. I remember loving th Box Car Children. James and the giant peach. Little House on the Prarie. Superfudge. The Ramona books. Peter Pan. How to Eat Fried Worms. I super love children's books, makes me want to go read The Secret Garden
My SD's loved the Geronimo Stilton books. The have special emphasis on certain words (like coloring the word RED in red text), so I would read the regular text and they would read the special words.
The Magic Treehouse series was briefly popular. They loved the early Harry Potter books at that age as well (books 1-3).
Thanks everyone. I need to pick out some books from the library bc when DS picks his own books he is never really interested in them.
And lol Maru y. I need to break out the Judy Blume books eventually. And I hate reading But love kids books and want my kids to love reading.
Chocolate Fever was good.
Also, if your DS likes Star Wars, they have a long line of Star Wars chapter books for young readers. That is what my DS likes me to read!
DD read the Boxcar Children, Magic Treehouse - but DS isn't hooked on any of them yet.
Jack has liked Roald Dahl, Boxcar Children, Magic Treehouse, and Harry Potter.
My son is 5 and we have read a lot of Junie B Jones, Little House on the Prairie, and The Mouse and the Motorcycle. Even my 3 year old loves the Mouse and the Motorcycle series!
Other books (not chapter books) that he likes to read/be read are the "No David" books by David Shannon (I think) Fly Guy, and just about any non-fiction about bugs/insects/animals...
I'm really not sure what your religious views are and these really aren't books as far as I know, but.....
There is a series out there that I know is on DVD. I think it's called Mr. Henry. He tells "Wild, wacky, totally true Bible stories". I think it's also on CD where he reads to the child. I don't know if there are books, though. My boys loved Mr. Henry stories and they learned a lot about the Bible too!
