after c-section...horrible neck pains?!

I just had a c-section on July 6th. I am feeling completely fine, the incision isn't bothering me one bit, but I have had this constant neck pain. It was just on one side and now it is on both sides! I called the dr on Wednesday and he said he doubts it has to do with the spinal since I don't have a headache bad enough to go with it. The thing is, it is now days later and it still didn't get better. He thought it was probably because I just slept uncomfortably at the hospital but wouldn't that have gone away by now?! I am just worried, anyone else experience this?

I had neck and shoulder pain that was worse than my c-section pain...it was from using my arms to pull myself up since I couldn't use my abs...

  • I didn't have a section but experienced that same pain after getting my gallbladder removed. Someone told me it had to do with air getting in your body and trying to get out. It was the worst part of recovery. I'm not sure if it is the same phenomenon but I figured I'd throw it out there. Good luck and congrats!

  • Are you breastfeeding?  I had horrible neck pains (and a csection) right after I had him, but my friend said she had it too and it was from breastfeeding and looking down at the baby all the time.  I also would fall asleep with him on my chest or bedshare and sleep funny.  In the end, I got a new memory foam pillow and it took care of the issue.   Good luck!

  • it is gas usually, but it can be referred pain.  Call the dr.  I had it really really bad.  The more you sit still the worse it is.  I was at the point in the hospital that I couldn't move and it took me an hour to move my arm to press the nurse button on the bed.

I had it really, really bad.  They even thought I had a pulmonary embolism because I had trouble breathing from it and it was from my chest into my neck.

Feel better :) but call the dr.

I had this in the hospital. They gave me some pain killers and it got better. Do you have any left over from your c/s?

Yes, mine was horrible. Are you breathing okay? If so, nothing to worry about. Mine was soooo bad - then when DS was five days old I couldn't breathe at all, and I did have pulmonary edema and it is seriousshitt.

Even after just ankle surgery I've experienced the air-pain-trapped-in-my-shoulders, which goes away eventually, but if you're having trouble breathing, call now.

  • I had a lot of back pain from breastfeeding and also from just holding the baby all the time.  It went away in a few weeks once i got used to both.
