Earlier this week I went to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription and when the pharmacist entered my ID card number (from my regular spouse ID card) the computer told her it wasn't a valid number. She called Tricare and they told her that my ID card was not valid, that the number should be my husband's social security number. The card used to have my husbands social as the ID number, but when I got this "new" card last summer the ID number was different, and they told me the system was changing for safety reasons. I have been using this card for over a year and have never had any problems. I'm confused as to why they would change the system away from using social's as the ID number and then change it back again. My husband never heard anything about the cards changing, and my card is supposed to be valid until January 2013. In the end I still go the prescription, but now do I need to go get a new ID card?

Re: Anyone have ID card issues when getting prescriptions?
This, I just got my new ID and it has no socials, thank God!
Tricare is crazy. Seriously. Half the people don't know what they are talking about, ever. My son's name was spelled incorrectly and had the wrong birth year and I swear to you, I was told SIX TIMES it was changed and it NEVER was. It was absolutely ridiculous. Funny thing, I wasn't even the one who complained. I would just say that it was wrong and someone would go out of their way to get it *fixed* and they'd tell me that they had *changed* it. Except it never changed. Wasn't a DEERS issue either, checked with them too.
We are guard and 99% of the time I got my prescriptions on base, no problem. ONCE they asked me for my husband's active orders and would not give me my prescription without them. They are highly inconsistent.

They didn't go back to using SSN's some places just haven't changed over yet.
Sometimes they still ask for DH's social, or the last 4 anyway, so learn that just in case. Not everything seems to have switched over yet. But here they at least know that the ID cards have changed and simply ask for the last 4 of the SSN.
You didn't do anything wrong, like someone else mentioned, whoever you were dealing with is in the wrong.
The issue with the above Poster, not withstanding, there will always be issues when a new system is instituted. The old system worked off the Sponsor's SS#.
DoD changed that because it was not safe to have IDs out there with SS#. But
a) not all of the cards have been switched over yet. and
b) the computer system has to work with two different ids and the civilian contractors have to deal with the back last.
When I worked for PAF (a national Patient Advocate Association), we had a handful of calls from the WY Blues people, because their system did something similiar. It was a pain in the arse. But they finally worked it out.
You should have seen the cluster when CHCS was first created and they tried to sync to the VA system.......
