Elevated cord doppler reading

Hi! I am new here. I saw my MFM this week and baby B (my little girl) had an elevate doppler reading and slow growth. Has anyone here been through this that can give me some info? I can't really seem to find too much on this topic :( Thanks in advanced!

Re: Elevated cord doppler reading

  • Yes. We are going through the same thing. She is very small (now in 5%) but they same her doppler cord blood flow is good actully elevated. They dont seem too concerned as long as she grows some next week. But it looks like I will go in for more testing then just once a week though after that. But it all seems like a big ? which freaks me out.

  • Not sure how far along you are.  I had elevated cord readings on baby A starting at about 34 or 35 weeks I think.  His growth slowed too.  I had weekly BPPs and twice weekly NSTs after that.  My section ended up being moved from 38 weeks to 37 because of it, per MFMs orders.  It wasn't an emergency though and I knew I would deliver earlier a few weeks in advance.  DS (baby A) arrived perfectly healthy.

ETA: I believe it was elevated cord pressure.

  • You probably mean an elevated SD ratio.  You may find more info if you google that.  How far along are you and what does your Dr. say?

The SD ratio basically measures the amount of resistance in the umbilical cord flow.  My twin A had such high resistance they called it absent end diastolic flow.  Fortunately he was able to last with that for about a month, but when I reached 28 weeks they flow got worse and actually started reversing.  His growth was also affected and he was borderline IUGR.  Best wishes to you.

  • Thanks everyone, it sounds like monitoring is what they will do. I haven't figured out how to do my signature yet. I am 29 weeks (in three days) and my SD ratio is 3.3 now.  The MFM didn't say too much other than I will come back next week (this coming week) and they will redo the reading and then there would be more testing. I guess if he was super alarmed I would be in the hospital right now ...?  It's comforting hearing what others have gone through.
