Baby Showers

Registry Question (Poll)

My husband and I have decided to use cloth diapers.  We are currently registered only at Target.  I took a CD class at a small, local store that does offer a registry.  I also see that Target offers many of the CDs that I like online.  Most of the people attending my shower are family: think cousins and aunts in their thirties+.  I'm trying to decide where I should register for our cloth diapers.  Which do you think is more likely:  that they would drive to a dinky little store they've never heard of, or that they'll purchase gifts online?

Thanks!

Re: Registry Question (Poll)

  • I voted for online, however I think you can realistically expect that they will go into the Target stores and when they find they can't buy there, will just you clothes instead. I would make sure you have a good registry of in-store items for guests to purchase from.

Even though your guests may be online shoppers, most will not think far enough in advance to order online in time to have it shipped.

I doubt people will drive to a store they have never heard of.

  • Your cloth diapers will probably be bought by you. I'd go ahead and register at both places and see what happens but if they've never heard of the store, they'll probably choose target and buy something else that they can get in the store.

So I'd just be prepared to purchase these on your own.

  • Thanks ladies! I anticipated that we would pay for all of our cloth diapers, but thought it'd be worth a try to get them on a registry when I learned that we could. I have a feeling that DH's family will think it's a little too crunchy anyway, so I guess we'll see what happens!

This exactly!  I online shop a lot, but when it comes to showers more often than not I buy stuff in the store. Register at both and see what happens.

  • Take it from someone who cloth diapers, you can never have too many so I would register for them at both places.

    Completely agree!

I would register at both places (though I did vote for online) but I plan to CD too and I honestly think my family will think it is too strange so I am really planning on just getting CDs on our own!

I agree with this. Maybe you'll get lucky and get some Target giftcards you could use to order them online. I would be surprised if your guests picked either of these options, to be honest.

We've had a lot of luck with Amazon registries in the past. Have you considered registering on amazon and adding cloth diapers from both places with a universal registry button?

  • I would add them to your Target registry as well, but expect that you may not get many.  And I agree tht you should make sure that you have a lot of in-store items on your registry, expecially for those last minute shoppers.  That being said, I was actually surprised (and impressed) at the number of people who ordered things online for my shower and either brought it to the shower or had the items delivered to our house ahead of time.

  • I would register at both--even if you don't put a lot of them on your Target registry--just so they can see that you are cloth diapering and hopefully will not buy you disposable diapers.

  • Honestly?  I'm guessing that, provided they aren't otherwise big online shoppers, the answer is "neither."  I'm planning on cloth diapering, too, but that's one item I'm intending to just leave off the registry and purchase myself because I know most of my family and friends would rather go into a store to buy a gift than buy online, and most won't go to an out-of-the-way store (if they're even in the same town...most of my fam isn't :( ).  If you want to include it, I'd put it on the Target registry--at the least, they'll see you're going for cloth diapers and won't buy you a pack of disposables.

  • I don't have a target here, would they have to pay shipping if they ordered online? I would assume so but some ship to the nearest store for no extra charge. If I had tp pay shipping at target I would go to the little store. Unless the little stores diapers cost more then targets plus shipping. If there was no shipping I would order from targets (if I had one) unless the little stores was cheaper but that seems unlikely for a small store.
  • I'd register at Cotton Babies online.  Free shipping on every order!  To be honest, most people probably won't buy CDs from a registry anyway.

We use CDs, but didn't register for any.  My aunt actually went to a baby boutique and asked clerks about the CDs so she could get me some since she'd heard that was what we'd be using.  That was sweet and unexpected, but I think she's probably the only one who would have bought diapers even if we'd registered for them.
