To add to the shower posts...creepy

My MIL got a text wondering if I was registered anywhere but BRU because there isn't one close to one of the guests...the guest then followed up saying she found it at Target.  I specifically didn't register at Target because of their terrible return policy.  So I go to Target's website and sure enough...there is a girl registered with my SAME name, state, gender of LO and due date.  She isn't registered with a co-registrant so people from her shower hopefully aren't purchasing from mine but it looks like I might get gifts from her registry.  I normally wouldn't care but her style is so different than mine (I'm CD/eco friendly...her registry proves otherwise) and Target has a terrible return policy.  I just think it is kind of creepy to have that much in common with someone and while my first name is very common, my last name is not too common.

  • That is totally creepy. You may want to let your shower hosts know to hopefully avoid any confusion.

My MIL knows because I was there with her looking and I alerted my mom.  However, it is a week before my shower and everyone has RSVPd.  We put in a registry card for BRU so hopefully everyone else can "follow directions" as my mom put it lol.

  • Yeah, real bazaar.

I would pray that no one buys a big item and tries to have it shipped to you. And then it ends up at her house : /

  • Do you think she is legit? I wonder if she copied some of your info and hopes that a few people order and have things shipped. And then she gets them. Maybe I'm just a pessimist, but there are so many scammers out there these days!

I think that you should create a very small target registry, with your SO as the co-registrant, because otherwise you are going to run the risk that people can't follow directions and buy off of her registry.

Yes, do this. I threw a shower for my friend Misty and the same thing happened to her except even the names of their husbands were the same. I threw her a Winnie the Pooh themed shower because everything on "her" registry was Winnie the Pooh. I should have double checked with her, but who would think ALL of their info would match up with someone else? We live in a pretty small town.

Turns out my friend actually hates Winnie the Pooh and that wasn't her registry. Target was sucktastic and wouldn't let her return the gifts etc. The people who were kind enough to put gift receipts in did her a huge favor, but the others she was stuck with.

I didn't even think of that!  That is really possible!  Luckily all of her stuff is cheaper and nothing is big. So far I have all of my big things bought off my registry and the things that are on her registry that are purchased only add up to like $50.

Completely agree. This should eliminate any confusion.

Crazy. I would do as above.

Also, for the record BIZARRE. A Bazaar is a place to shop...

LOL but what's really funny is that it still almost makes sense in context.

Thanks for the tip. This made me laugh ;)
  • I honestly would call Target and get a manager to help you out with the possibility of returns. I know they are super crappy about it, but if you call enough places someone should be willing to help you in your situation. Make sure you write down who you talked to etc.
  • I never thought of this, very bizzar indeed. I better check the places I've registered bc I have a pretty common first and last name
