I need some MIL advice! My MIL watches DS once a week while I volunteer (I stay at home). This is really helpful to me. My issue is that since she is home that day she schedules to have her house sprayed for bugs (I think every other month maybe?). I try to limit DSs exposure to pesticides and chemicals in general. We don't eat completely clean but all his baby food etc is mostly organic and we don't even spray our own house (we don't have a bug problem) because I don't want DS exposed. I want to just ask her that on the days she schedules this to let me know and I'll make other arrangements just during the time period the house is being sprayed.
My MIL gets upset easily and I hate to rock the boat and I also know I worry about things other people don't worry about. So would you say something or is this something that people do all the time?
Re: random MIL advice needed - pesticides and baby related

I would say something.
I'm pretty lax and easy going about most everything kid related but pesticides are a huge no-no. We have are farm sprayed for bugs a couple times a summer and I keep LO in the house for the whole day while they do it and then some.
I would just say something, but be nice. She's of an older generation or may not realize it...she's probably just thinking, "Hey, I'm home. Two birds one stone."
Just say, MIL I love it when you watch Baby. However, those pesticides no matter how necessary can be hard on babies' systems. Can you do it another day or switch days you watch LO for me. I'd appreciate it."
I think a lot of the pest control companies do an initial spray inside and out the first time to get rid of whatever is already in and then only spray outside after that...I'm not sure if all of them do it this way but before hiring the company we use now I called around to a couple different places and asked about the chemicals being inside because I was concerned about the baby and my 2 cats and they all explained that they stay outside after the first treatment. That being said, the company we use does spray inside now because we're trying to control a major ant problem (
they're driving me nuts!) but they do use green products that are safe around children and pets. So anyway, all I'm saying is maybe just ask MIL about it first before possibly getting into an argument about it.
We used a company that used eco-friendly materials/sprays and even they recommended that DD not be in the house while the spraying was happening and for a few hours after the fact.
I would say something and not feel bad about it.
