my LO is going through the same thing. i posted on 6-9 mon asking about the sleep aspect. all of a sudden he's very hot and cold -- whiny one second and happy the next. he does not play as well on his own and his naps have gone to hell. a few weeks ago his naps were starting to lengthen from 45 min to 60 or 90, and now they're usually 30 min. he is also sleeping a couple hours less per night.

most people i've talked to think it's him learning to stand up/balance/cruise combined with teething (my little guy is clearly in pain and not much seems to relieve it).

best advice i got was to hang in there, stay calm, and give him as much love as i can. i massage his gums a few times a day when he'll let me and give him cold teether toys and lots of kisses.

if you are concerned about your daycare option it's worth looking into alternatives. it sounds like most of the things you don't like are problems for you regardless of what stage your LO is going through.

i don't attempt to cook with my LO but if yours is content to chill in her bumbo and watch you cook it sounds awesome. i set up a play yard in the living room with a view of the kitchen and i can usually get about 10-20 min before he whines for me so that's how i get little things done!

    good luck.

as if i didn't respond long enough yesterday i just wanted to let you know that for the last two nights i put him to bed way early (6 and 6:30) and he slept over 11 hours both nights. today he took 3 half hour naps very easily, so i wonder if that's just how he's going to nap for awhile. you might want to try putting your LO to bed earlier, it's working wonders with my LO, he's been happy all day and waaay different. it seems like the earlier we put him to bed, the later he sleeps!

  • I think it's a combination of the attachment issue and the teething problems. It's a shame that they come all at once and definitely makes it difficult for mommy and baby! Have you talked to your pedi about ibuprofen? It works much better than tylenol and should be safe to give baby over 6 months... but of course talk to pedi about it. If LO is REALLY irritable, we give a dose and wait... usually one will do it for the whole day but you can give one every 6-8 hours.

One thing I have noticed really helps with the attachment problems is letting LO play by himself....I know it sounds obvious and sometimes it won't work if LO is having a really bad day. We are going to get a PnP or playpen for our living room soon hopefully for this exact reason. When LO knows that I am there watching him, he will cry if I don't pay attention to him. When I sit him in the PnP at my ILs with a bunch of toys he immediately gets distracted and I have seen him play in there by himself for almost 2 hours! If I was to go over there and bother him he would immediately start crying and want out, even though he is perfectly fine.
