I went back to work this week and we've been having trouble with LO eating. The first 2 days she wouldn't eat really anything, about 5 oz total. Now that last 3 days she's been eating 15 oz! I pump at work and she eats BM bottles. Before going back to work I had no clue how much she was eating.
She is 10 weeks, eats 6 times a day (3 of which are bottles while I'm at work), and today ate 5 oz at 9:30, 12:30 and 2:30. Could she be overeating with a bottle of BM? I can't pump 15 oz everyday so I am afraid I am going to have to start bringing formual to daycare.
Or could she be in a growth spurt? She has been extra fussy this week and not sleeping great, but I don't see any listed at 10 weeks.
Re: Overeating BM with a bottle?
She actually spits up more often when I feed her than from a bottle. I'll see next week if we can try a paci inbetween to at least get 3 hours between the bottles.
Could it be the nipple? I'm using the dr. brown's preemie nipple per my LC's suggestion. It takes him a good 20 mins to finish 4 oz. and afterwards he seems satisfied. Before, I was using the level 1 nipples and he would scream as soon as he finished the bottle. He would also occassionally choke or cough because the flow was too fast. The slower flow of the preemie nipple is supposed to mimic BFing.
My LO has been eating 5oz bottles for about a month & and half. I returned to work 1 week ago and have been pumping 3x at work, sometimes in the morning if I have time, and usually before bed. Between all those sessions, I get about 15 oz. He has been wanting to eat 4x at DC, so I have had to supplement with 1 bottle at DC. I'm going to try fenugreek to see if that helps my supply. If it doesn't, I'm to the point that I'm ok with it. At least he is still getting mostly BM.
