toilet overflow, freaking out

so, my DH decided to clog the toilet before he left for work. needless to say, i had to clean it up and the toilet ended up overflowing! making it worse, there was solid waste in the toilet... luckily no solid wasted ended up on the floor, just the water but still, that water is contaminated! i'm bleaching and cleaning my ass off, but i'm just scared that i exposed myself to all this fecal matter and e coli and whatnot... i know it's probably really irrational, but i was diagnosed with ocd a while ago and it's making me freak out. i washed my hands like a million times already. i keep thinking that the baby is going to be affected by it or something. i'm telling y'all this in hopes that people can tell me i'm just being paranoid and trying to keep my ocd from making my anxiety any worse. thanks to yall in advance, i hope i can just calm down and quit worrying so much.

LOL. I am only laughing b/c this EXACT same thing happened to me about a month ago, and the bathroom was on the first floor, right by the basement and the water came down the cracks and flooded the basement as well. Yeah, well, I had to go down there to put buckets to try and catch it so, um, it came down all over me. I also have diagnosed OCD so I can seriously sympathize. I jut can't believe I could have written your post word for word.

It is gross, and annoying, and disgusting, but you will be fine!!!! I cleaned it all up and then showered I think twice afterwards. Then, when DH came home, I made him mop everything again.

Besides being overwhelmed and grossed out (and super anxious) baby and I were JUST FINE. You will be too. Try to relax and let your DH do some cleaning!!!

we had that happen to us like 3 times in the last month or so.... we had a broken pipe that we didn't know about (yuck)... it's awful and I showered after cleaning it up. It went in our basement, but DH cleaned that up. It was a mess.

LOL. I'm glad I made you feel better! My guess is you will take a few more before the day is done. Every time I like walked in the room with bare feet or like touched anything that touched in there I washed my hands/feet again. I was a mess. But it all turned out fine and I calmed way down after DH came home and cleaned it really well. :-)

Sorry about the OCD - I know it makes it more difficult for you but I wouldn't freak out about your husband's poo. It's unlikely that he has e coli [usually that would make him present with symptoms of illness]
