Adoption

Agencies in NC?

After two and a half years of trying to conceive and suffering multiple pregnancy losses, my husband and I have decided to stop fertility treatments and pursue adoption. We live in North Carolina and would love to know of reputable agencies in our state that we should check out. Thanks!

Re: Agencies in NC?

  • Welcome!  I am also in NC, near Raleigh.  We researched several agencies and liked Children's Home Society in Greensboro the best.  They are just under $17,000 which seems to include everything, even attorney fees.  But, they keep their wait times down (about 1 year or less) by only accepting a few applicants at a time and right now they are not accepting anyone, but they do have a waiting list if you're interested.

DH and I decided to go with a private attorney since we are ready to get started now.  This attorney has 25 years experience and has adopted 2 children himself.  Sometimes I worry that not having the support of an agency could cause problems, but so far it's been going very smoothy (probably because we have a good support system and we spent months researching).  Also, I guess I had always assumed that most people got their BMs through the agency, but most people I've talked to have actually said they got hits from parentprofiles.com..nothing from their agency.  So it just seemed like wasted money to me.

If you want anymore information, feel free to PM me. Good luck! Smile

  • Yay!  I'm so happy to see some other people from NC (and even Raleigh)!

We are focusing on foster parenting right, so I don't have any adoption agency recommendations.  But there are quite a few kids available for adoption through the foster care system.  Not sure if that is an avenue that you would consider, but wanted to throw that out there!

GL!  Maybe we should have a adoptive/foster parent GTG sometime!

Definitely!  I also met another couple here that is adopting at an adoption seminar.  Get togethers could be fun and a great source of support!

  • We're in Raleigh too.  We're fostering with the hopes of adopting someday if God opens that door for us.

  • So happy to see so many NC people on here.

My husband and I are using Children's Home Society to adopt from foster care.  We are near Raleigh.

  • We are in Charlotte. We tually used Lifetime Adoptions which is based out of California. We had a great experience. But I also know that Nathanson Adoptions is based in North Carolina and are really good.
