WWTTGPD? Temping

I set an alarm for 7:00 and planned to temp then. The next day I woke up at 6:40 and decided to go ahead and temp. For the next few days I kept waking up 10 mins earlier than the previous, and I was concerned that it was creating a downward pattern (which is unusual for me, mine are normally erratic). I decided to set my alarm for 6:20, in hopes that I wouldn?t wake up any earlier, and my temps would be accurate.

Sure enough, this morning I woke up before my alarm but decided to roll over and go back to sleep without checking the time or my temp. This happened about 3 times. I checked my temp at 6:20 like the previous day, and it was higher than my other temps. I?m concerned that waking before my alarm caused this, and I don?t want to get my hopes up if I see fake CH.

I feel like there is no point in temping if it isn?t accurate, but I also really do not want to give it up. When I wake, it is literally to turn over and go back to sleep. Do you think this is having a huge effect on my temp? Would you keep temping?

Re: WWTTGPD? Temping

  • Yes, I would keep temping. If you look at my chart from last month, it's a mess, but I still saw a temp shift. This month I'm temping anywhere between 5 and 5:40 (my alarm) and I see a clear shift with no open circles. I often look at the clock at 4 am and roll back over and go to sleep. Even if I have to get up to pee, I don't notice a major issue with my temps. Linking your chart might help people answer too.

Thanks. My chart is in my siggy. "A Glimpse at my Lazy Ovaries"

  • My body has a tendency to do this too. I found that the waking up, rolling over, and going back to sleep hasn't really affected my temps. It took me about a week to really see that it's pretty similar to the other months.

  • Thanks for posting this, I have the same issue!

I almost always wake up before my alarm (regardless of how early I set it to go off), so I temp at a slightly different time every day. This cycle my alarm is set for 6:25 in hopes that I'll wake up around 6. If I wake up before 6 and manage to get back to sleep quickly, I do not mark sleep deprived and I keep it as a closed circle. If I have to get up (to pee or take tylenol for my chronic headaches), I temp before I get up and take the open circle for the time difference.

While my temp shifts may not always be super pretty, I am still able to get solid crosshairs by doing it this way. So it's definitely worth continuing to temp and seeing if it works for you.

I wouldn't worry at all about a few days of a downward pattern. You don't have enough data yet to really analyze it that closely. Wait until you have a solid cycle of data before you let it drive you nuts. That said, I'm curious... what happened to June 25th? You seem to be missing a day between cycles.

  • I do use OPKs. I only use them once a day, and I haven't seen a positive. I think the reason I am waking up is because I am worried about my alarm not going off and missing the day's temp. I don't feel worried about it, but the moment I wake, temping is on my mind. I really think setting my alarm for 5:30 would just cause me to start waking earlier than that.

I've never really had this problem. I think I am too hopeful that starting Met and other meds will regulate my cycle.

I just noticed it wasn't on my chart. I hadn't even noticed until you asked. I didn't pay much attention to charting last month because we went on vacation and I stopped temping. When I put CM in for the 25th, it shows up on my chart. I wonder why it didn't show before.

I don't know the "right" answer, but I wouldn't worry about waking up for a second and rolling over to fall back to sleep.  That's just my 2 cents.  However, I also had the issue of waking up before my alarm, and I did choose to set it for 5:30 instead of 6:30 just to temp and go back to sleep.  It has helped me, but I know you said you didn't think that would work for you.
