Babies: 3 - 6 Months

1st nap of theday?

How long after waking/feeding does your LO go down for their 1st nap?  And how long do they usually sleep for?  DD is 19 weeks and today is her 3rd consecutive morning where I actually put her down for a nap!  I am hoping this is her new "schedule" although it only last about 45 min, but I will take it!  She never napped before... I am trying out the "magic sleep suit" to transition out of swaddle and rnp into crib- so far, she seems to do well in the sleep suit!  hoping to get another nap in this afternoon.  I haven't had any free time in 4 months! (I am dancing right now, lol!)

Re: 1st nap of theday?

  • My LO sleeps in a Halo Sleep Sack or a sleepie with feet....Sleep Sacks are awesome!

His first nap comes right after he STTN. I put him down between 7-9pm, he wakes up for a feeding between 4:30-6am, then back down about an hr later for a 2 hr nap or so, that is his 1st nap of the day.

This has been his schedule for a couple weeks now...so get used to it for a little while, mama! :)

  • DS goes down for his first nap 2 hours after waking.  He's been falling asleep during a feeding, so I've been moving him to the crib.  He'll sometimes fuss for a few minutes, but then he's out anywhere between 30min and 1 hour.  He usually takes 2 more naps during the day, but at least one of them he insists on taking on me.

  • About 2 hrs after he wakes up he naps, then again 2 more times during the day. His naps range from 30-60 min.

  • Anywhere from one to two hours after waking for the day. I just follow her sleepy cues. She'll sleep for 1-2 hours IF I let her sleep on me. She is rebelling against her crib for naps - although she sleeps fine in it at night.

  • I just started trying to figure out my DS's schedule.  He is going down for a nap usually an hour to an hour and a half after he wakes for the day. Yesterday it was only 40 minutes, but beats the 20 minute naps he was taking before then because I was putting him down for a nap after he was overtired.  Now I am reading the cues and it is definitely working better (so far anyway).

  • DD still has to be swaddled, but her first nap is about 2-2.5 hours after she wakes...usually depends on how well she slept that night (last night she slept from 7:45pm to 1am then from 1:30am to 6:30am and her first nap was at around 8:45am.  It was about an hour long so that was great!  She takes a longer nap in the afternoon in her RNP (about 2-3 hours) then a cat nap around 5 or 6.

  • LO sleeps 8:30-6, then back to bed till about 8:30. So I considering him actually waking for the day at 8:30, he eats around 9/9:30 he's usually down for a nap by 10:30 but only sleeps 30-45 mins, his afternoon nap is usually 1-1 1/2 hours and then an evening nap for like 20-30 mins.

  • Do you have a consistent bed and wake up time? I've found doing both of those has helped develop a routine/schedule. My son has had this EASY schedule since about 3.5 months (he just turned 5 months.) some days it goes just like this, other days it gets off a little because of shorter or longer naps, running errands, sleeping in from a late night, etc. Through trial and error, I figured my son's optimal wake time is 2 hours. After that he gets overtired! I would suggest finding your son's- it makes putting them down sooo much easier!

    8:00 wake/feed

    10:00 nap

    11:00 wake/feed

    1:00 nap

    2:30 wake/feed

    4:30 nap

    5:15 wake/feed

    8:00 feed/bed

This is almost exactly what we do, but DS doesn't take an 1:30 at 1:00.  he takes about 45-1 hour

  • Lucia goes down for a nap about 2 hours after she wakes up in the morning.  So it's often wake up at 6:30, go down at 8:30.  If she seems sleepy earlier I go with that.
